    Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, DBT....
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

look like hipsters to me... i dont know that "real" country music (as you call it) can be made by anyone in a baby blue v-neck... but im skeptical of the sincerity of any new music these days... not critiquing the music itself - its actually pretty good... just cant shake the feeling its a new age parody of the "real" country youre looking for

we can agree that all of mainstream country is shit these days though... little or no blues roots left in any of it

maybe the term ' "real" country ' has become bastardized with classic country and that's the root problem.

And just to make sure we're on the same page here:

you're feeling the music, but because he's wearing the wrong t-shirt, the sincerity is now thrown out the window? Shouldn't the music alone do the talking?

true... not really a fair criticism on my part... good banjo and fiddle, thunderous guitars... thats all i ask for in my country... theres definitely still good country out there... just harder to find... kindof like any kind of music and all of todays neatly packaged, tone deaf pandering

Yeah, basically anything from the 70's or earlier and/or from the Lost Highways label is a pretty good bet. But the crap that they call country these days? The worst.

Here in Texas we have our own version of country we call "Texas Music". A lot of it is probably more closely related to Americana than Country, but anway there is some great music coming out of here that most of you folks probably never heard of. But some you have.

    Robert Earl Keen
    The Flatlanders
    Asleep at the Wheel
    Ryan Bingham
    Junior Brown
    Charlie Robison

Just a few good ones. I've always liked George Strait too, and he's the rarest of country singers for me- a popular artist that makes genuinely good music.

What?? No Pat Green? J/K, I couldn't stand that guy.

I used to listen to country a lot but I think I kind of got burnt out on it. I grew up listening to it and over the years its kind of faded away for me. I still love some Hank though, Sr. that is.

For a great newish "country" artist I'm really into Ryan Bingham. I try and get him exposure to anyone interested in the genre.

Ryan Adams and the Cardinals are basically country too, and damn good.

Ryan Bingham is about as country as I get, but he has a good rock sound to his style. You could almost put the Drive By Truckers in that category too, but to me they are rock too. There are some good acts out there, I just don't like the overly twangy types of country, I need the rock edge or some hint of the blues. "New Country" is a joke, no authenticity what so ever.

    I agree with this one.
I found out about her when she was touring with John Doe and they swung by these parts. I went out a couple of days later and picked up a couple of her CDs. Really good music and she's a pretty damn good guitar player.
