anyone speaking BEHIND me, annoys me no end. dunno why. that's why in the movie theatre we always sit in the last row. something about someone behind me, talking, just so truly irritating.
that said, i LOVE people speaking in foreign languages, and i don't find it distracting at ALL. (tho behind me/super loud, yea). other side of my cube used to be a rotating spot for associates on secondment, always from the netherlands. one of our partners is dutch, so they'd come over to work with him. i would hear this person speaking in dutch almost all day long - b/c the rest of our area is soooo quiet. last guy spoke dutch/french/spanish/english...and spoke all on the phone. i LOVED it. i love languages - even tho all i speak is english - and i loved to hear him speak (had a great voice too, so that did help)...but it was great noise, without the distraction of actually understanding what he was saying.
edit - from here to hear...;)Post edited by decides2dream onStay with me...

Agreed on all counts. I hate anyone speaking loudly behind me - keep it to yourself! But I love, love, love other languages. I've been surrounded by them my whole life...grandmom spoke German, step dad speaks Greek and French and my ex spoke Polish. I sadly only speak English, but I was able to understand some Polish after 13 years together :P And as you know...I have an affinity for non-american accentsdecides2dream wrote:anyone speaking BEHIND me, annoys me no end. dunno why. that's why in the movie theatre we always sit in the last row. something about someone behind me, talking, just so truly irritating.

When I lived in Boston it constantly annoyed me when people would speak very loudly in another language. I am speaking of public transportation, where you have no escape from the noise. Every Day, different people did it. I think if it was English you would get told STFU. Weird.9/7/98, 8/3/00, 9/4/00, 4/15/03, 7/1/03, 9/28/04, 9/29/04, 5/24/06, 5/25/06, 6/17/08, 6/22/08, 6/28/08, 6/30/08, 5/17/10, 10/15/13, 10/16/13.0

I just don't think I have the knack for languages...I took 3 years of French, my stepdad speaks french...i don't remember a damn thing! My ex only spoke Polish with his family and I only picked up a handful of words. I think being immersed in it would help...but I just don't think my brain works that way loldecides2dream wrote:comebackgirl wrote:
