Go a 5/5. A bunch of the kids in his class have asked him for some Pearl Jam so they can play it at home. He had to explain to them that each show is different as they change the set list. Then they wanted more. One girl asked if it is ok to still listen to Miley Cyrus. He said no and she is complying

Too true. I was so psyched to tell everyone I knew about the awesome night I had at LA1: http://www.choggymowk.com/2009/10/01/an ... pearl-jam/ (I will never, in all my years, top THAT)
But instead I got a lot of "Who's Pearl Jam?" and "That's cool I guess." For one girl I know, I had to liken it to her getting on stage and singing with Miley Cyrus for her to truly understand the significance of what had just happened! Oh, well...
thats fucking awesome!PJ:7/2/03.9/28/04.5/25/06.8/5/07.6/14/08.6/27/08.6/28/08.6/30/08.

I often have people hang shit on me for loving Pearl Jam. Usually people in their late teens who think they know everything. I always want to say "at least in 20-30 years time people will still talk about Pearl Jam, not your shitty Fall Out Boy and other rubbish". But I figure they want a reaction from me so I don't really give it to them. Does it really matter? One for each day, since I fell apart0

I remember in 1994 saying I wish all these fucking poseurs would just go away. And within a few years, I actually got my wish thanks to the band sabotaging their career. Every time my friends (all in their 30s now) make fun of me for liking Pearl Jam I smile to myself because I got my wish. There is nothing anyone can say that will change how I feel about this band. They are the best ever.
For the kids today-- I say let em be. Let them find their own music--let them find their own soundtrack. Pearl Jam is ours .. for now."Goddamn Romans. Sure know how to make a ... drum room." --Matt Cameron0 -

well if someone says PJ sucks, their loss. I guess some kids will just never "get it."
Based on the bands the OP listed that the culprit listed, he seems to be a radio listener and listen to major label cash cow "in" stuff. His loss. All those bands he listens to just sounds so bland and have the same sound.
I do have one question though regarding Korn. How come they get roped into this whole "nu-metal" genre? Their first record came out in 93 or 94. I still remember the maroon KORN shirts that promoted the album. HAHA. Are the considered the founders of this movement or something? I mean I can understand throwing Limp Bizkit and any latter 98-2000 bands in there, but just seems odd why Korn would be in there. The first album was a new sound at the time. Not like Pantera type heavy sound, but still heavier then most modern rock of early 90-95. Just curious I guess I just see Korn as before the genre hit.PJ: 10/14/00 06/09/03 10/4/09 11/15/13 11/16/13 10/08/14

Hey people just for the record (there was some stuff said about kids earlier)
I love PJ, they're my favorite band, and I'm 14. Kids who don't like them have never listened to them, or they like black people (no offense) who shout and complain into microphones to a very basic and dumb beat while wearing strange urban clothes (aka rap).
So don't label all us modern teens, please. PJ forever.Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?
I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

Great that you're 14, and you like PJ. I'm taking my 14 year old to her first rock concert ever - PJ in Adelaide next week. Guess everyone's entitled to like whatever music they please, and though I am of the opinion a lot of the music coming out these days is crap, not all of it is. I like a band who can stand the test of time - PJ is the classic case here. I've liked all sorts of music through the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and some of what's coming out now. My 15 year old likes some good music, and some which I would put in the "crap" category, Dot_Dot Curve, for instance I simply cannot get into. At least she still likes PJ and is coming to their Sydney concert with me. She tries to get me into her kind of music, I try to keep an open mind here cos she listens to some stuff I'd never have even heard of and it's not always too bad.0

I guess you think it's too young? For most kids, yeah probably, but if the kid actually WANTS to be there, like this kid obviously was, I don't think there's really a problem with that. There will definitely be less whining and complaining if the kid is there of their own volition.September 30th, 2009

I'm probably the vast majority here. So I'll start off with saying that Pearl Jam is my favorite band ever hands down. But after Pearl Jam my favorite bands are pop punk and hardcore/post hardcore bands.
I mean I enjoy New Found Glory, but theres more to pop punk then just them, and it crosses over between genres, though mainly with hardcore. Besides Pearl Jam my favorites are Set Your Goals, Crime in Stereo, Polar Bear Club, Title Fight, Agent, Fireworks, Have Heart, Soul Control, Thrice and various other PopPunk/Hardcore/Post Hardcore bands.
I know many of you think theyre kids music and hey I'm 18, but look at yourselves when you were my age and Pearl Jam was just jitting it. Older people were complaining about your music. They cultures between the origin of Pearl Jam and various bands today is similar to, you all say that you would never mosh and it ruins the expierience of the concert, but look at Pearl Jam concerts from the begining, you guys were doing the same stuff. The music is just about being in your youth and letting it all out. Now I prefer to rush to the front in these bands shows because I think its greater to be right there instead of moshing. But I was at Warped Tour and moshed, and if I didnt have a split lip (5 stiches from wrecking my '65 Mustang NOT MY FAULT) I wouldve done the same thing at Bamboozle.
So I just ask before you all go off saying that the music sucks and blah blah blah realize that theyre are some over laps in the fanbases and culture. Remember what it was like to be that age.
And hey if your like me just think of Pearl Jam (who originated in the Punk/Hardcore scene of the 80's) as grandfathers to todays Pop Punk/Hardcore/Post Hardcore resurgence. Anyway I'm sure theres more then a few of you on here that like H2O, Madball, and Gorilla Biscuts.

Fuck, I love Pearl Jam.
None of those dicks who listen to Breaking Benjamin and Miley Cyrus will ever affect my love for PJ, but it would be nice to know someone my age (18) who appreciates such a band and such music..."Speak clearly if you speak at all; carve every word before you let it fall"

As a high school student all of my friends love this "new age" music thing. I've got friends that love Shinedown, New Found Glory, etc. I just hate these bands. I don't see how anyone can like them. It seems glaringly evident that they don't write their own music, that all of it is pure producer feed bullshit.
Gimmie' some truth in Pearl Jam any day of the week.0 -
Live and let live - why must one insist on dualism in representing a continuum of like and dislike? Enjoy your music (that's your prerogative) and let others enjoy dissing you about your tastes (that's their prerogative).Newch91 wrote:This has nothing to do with all of you are probably thinking. This is a story of what happened to me today at school while working.
I was working in the student lounge at one of the regional campuses of UConn and I was on YouTube watching some videos. I started off with some White Stripes and then our favorite, Pearl Jam. I was watching Alive and Even Flow from Reading 2006. As the solo of Even Flow comes on, a kid comes up to the computer and says, "What the fuck are you listening to?" So he goes around the desk and looks at the computer and says, "You have the worst taste in music." How the hell does he say Pearl Jam sucks?
My music taste:
The Beatles
Led Zeppelin
Pearl Jam
The Who
Radiohead
The White Stripes/The Raconteurs/The Dead Weather
Jimi Hendrix
Nirvana
Foo Fighters
RATM
The kids taste:
Breaking Benjamin
Three Days Grace
New Found Glory
and a bunch of other shit0
