  • They actually have a pretty good light setup, its better from the floor then the lower bowl, and it really looks best in an arena but its actually pretty good for minimalist set up.

I've never liked the strobes...for the simple fact that my wife has epilepsy ;)

Although I like the fact that you can pretty much guess when they will use it...like in RVM as someone else said or when it gets to the end bit of Go and I can turn to her and shout "cover your eyes!!!"

I love that part at the end of RVM. I wish it would go on for like 5 minutes.

Maybe Kanye West can help them figure out a light show (Bonnaroo joke).

I've just witnessed PJ at LA3 and LA4, then Springsteen at Giants and then KISS at MSG. Three shows had quite restrained light shows that came second to the music or, more accurately, fitted in with it and complimented it, and one needed a whole nuclear powerplant to run the fucking thing and the show relied on it (KISS).

PJ and Springsteen blew KISS off the planet with their integrity, quality of songs and stage presence. KISS relied on the lights and pyros to entertain (I wasn't impressed and was happy to see the end of the show). Springsteen had a lot of video screens, but this enhanced the show for those who were miles from the stage, and even then, what they did with it was quite beautiful and often moving.

Give me Pearl Jam with their current light and stage set up anyday. It's about the music and I think they have the balance perfect.

yeah - what is the band's "policy" when it comes to screens? in Toronto at the Amp they used them (I assume they are the venues). They didn't use them in Vancouver., I remember thinking in T.O., I guess they have decided to let the people in the back actually see.

believe they were used in 06 - anyone remember where?
In Cleveland, they were used in World Wide Suicide, Severed Hand, and Inside Job if I'm not mistaken. They used the strobe during Rearviewmirror last year at VA Beach....I like a lil bit of a light show myself.

Yes. I don't care how much it costs. Some lasers make a huge difference. Remember the kick ass green lasers.

I am an epileptic as well, so whilst I cope with strobes, I too have the 'cover your eyes' moment.

I love the fact that they are such a good band that they don't need to enhance the performance with lights, plus is certainly bumps up the carbon neutral costs.
I dunno, sometimes lasers have their place, and can look awesome, but I go to a gig for the music!

1998 tour with the red backdrop and the candles was pretty cool enough for me.
