i dont think its about ed specifically. The current big thing, is the sensitive singer songwriter. The Bon Ivers, Iron and Wine's, Bright Eyes, Jose Gonzalez, Josh Radin's etc... of the world. Its the new thing, the big thing.

Yep and the Brett Dennen's and Ray Lamontagne's. Ugh!
    ...
Yeah.. but, compare the costs of their tickets to KIZZ' tickets.
Eddie Vedder's solos were in the 80's... I went to see Eddie. I'm not going to see KIZZ.

A person that I called a friend emailed this to me with the comment that he is ragging on your boy Ed. The only good thing to come from Kiss was Ace.

Didn't you immediately shout "Nobody fucking rags about my boy Ed!" and kick him in the ass?

  • He he he THIS was a fun read! :D To echo others, KISS sucks, Paul Stanley's a doofus and they totally need all that blood and fire to distract you from their shitty, shitty music ;)

It was really surreal last year when Ace (think it was Ace, someone from KISS) came out and played a song with Pearl Jam at MSG. I didn't dream that right? That actually happened? Cause I still can't quite believe it! :p Well, Mike seemed to be happy about it sooooo good for Mikey :p For me it was the worst moment at a PJ show I've ever witnessed. Small price to pay though for my favorite band ;)
Oh, if I knew where it was, I would take you there, but there's much more than this.
Ooooh. Whoooa, much more than this. Woooh see the world. Much more than... Oooh, much more than.. Why?

Two Sides Of The Coin is a great song. Slightly weird lyrics I grant you, but it's a good tune. I agree Frehley was the best thing about KISS. Have to say in the late 70's they were a pretty exciting band, should of stopped after Unmasked though, as they never released another half decent record after that

I don't think he was talking about anyone in particular. But it's interesting that as soon as he mentioned overpriced ticket prices for a guy with an acoustic guitar, you immediately thought of Eddie.

is it just me or did the songs playing in the background of the interview have a similar sound to Even flow?

i remember there was some sort of thing with Gene Simmons and pearl jam. i think he mentioned them in one of his failed solo albums with some not so favorable lyrics.

as for Ace, unless something crazy has changed, remember this?

  • He could be referring to anyone who plays acoustic..
    Neil
    CSN and somtimes Y
    The Boss
    PJ
    EV
    The BlackCrowes
    and on and on..
Anyway Kiss has to blow it up becuase there songs are only about T&A,no real substance so the fireworks and blood are the substance...Kiss had the day, they are far past it...they don't hold a candle to anyone who is close to there age (Neil or the Boss)..

Edit..I forgot about Ace joining them on stage...and Since Paul and Gene are pissed at Ace I would think this pissed them off even more :)

Sadly we're doing exactly what they want, any press is good press for Kiss..

Chiiile, please. Yes people, this vague reference "to a guy onstage by himself with a guitar" is an obvious reference to Ed Vedder, because as we all know, Vedder is the only person in the history of rock and roll to do that.

I've been a Kiss audio/video collector for years, and much of it is older than I am. I can tell you that Kiss have been saying since the 70's that when you buy a Kiss ticket, you are paying to see more than some scruffy guy alone onstage wearing jeans playing an acoustic guitar. If you can reference a Vedder solo show from that time, then maybe I'll give you the benefit of assumption.

I paid $67 to see Ed play guitar on an oriental rug in a theater that seats 1915 people. I’d rather do that than sit in the crappy $15 seats in a 15,000 seat arena. If I want fireworks I’ll hang out at seaworld at night. I go to a show to hear good music not watch hairy senior citizen prance around in spandex and dodge flash pots. I did see KISS and Ted Nugent at the Sports Arena about 10 years ago but that was because I never got to see them when I was a kid. Two way different bands with way different concert experiences.

If you think Kiss are only about spandex and flashpots, you don't really get it. It's about celebrating life, about being alive, you want more, you don't really get enough. It's a state of mind. The belief that you can make it, that you can climb any mountain or succeed at anything you choose. Maybe some find that corny, but those are usually just bitter, victimized, unsatisfied people. Some guy heard "overcharging for a guy alone with a guitar" and immediately assumed that Stanley was talking about about Vedder. Freud, anyone? Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, I give you Exhibit #1.

What can get better than celebrating a Friday night? if you can get that premise, you get Kiss. If you don't, that's ok too, because life and rock and roll move on anyways.

What he is saying is true. I'm no huge KISS lover, but they have their purpose in R&R history. If you look at the R&R timeline, every act has it's moment and feeds into the next genre, for better or worse. That's just R&R.

Didn't Cobain once see Cheap Trick live at like age 13 and decide at that moment he 'wanted to be Cheap Trick'??

seriously. some of you act as if Eddie invented the idea of sitting alone on a stage with a guitar on a rug. so what if Paul WAS taking a jab at Eddie?

    who cares.

i saw kiss back in 2000 via free radio station tickets.

if i had the choice, i would choose a PJ show, however, the kiss show was fun. i'm guessing back in the 70's they would been sick to see and i bet if you born back then there is a good chance you would be part of the army.

Comparing KISS and Pearl Jam is like comparing the Grand Canyon and Disneyland.

Disneyland is kind of a mindless, fun place for to escape reality and spend a day living in a fantasy world of flying elephants and talking mice.

The Grand Canyon is an amazing, natural phenomenon that takes your breath away when you look at it and ponder how insignificant your existence is compared to the millions of years it took to produce something like that.

For me Pearl Jam is the Grand Canyon...but I still like going to Disneyland once in a while.
