Don't bother with the other version. Trust me, you won't like it.

Is Gonna See My Friend one of the other ones? It is the only song I dislike on the album as it is boring and has no hook or anything that isn't bland. But the other songs are great!

Bland? Have you even listened to the song? Are you a fan of PJ's cover of "The Real Me"? If so, GSMF is very close. Listen to Jeff's fabulous playing on this song. Matt does pretty well, too.

It's also the only song I skip on the album.
    Haven't heard the demo version.

I LOVE Speed Of Sound!! All versions :) the song is stuck in my head too.....
  • the demo version would be just too much stripped down stuff on the album with Just Breathe and The End.

The song as it is adds yet more variation to an album that fits about 6 different bands into just 30 odd minutes.
we're all going to the same place...
  • You know I am one of few to say this, but it is actually one of my more favorite songs on the record.

After my first listen, I skipped it a few times on the next few listens, but now I'm really starting to like it a lot. It's definitely a grower. Probably because it sounds "different".
  • OK, I think I'm going to get slammed for this one, but I'm actually digging Speed of Sound a little bit more than Unthought Known.....

I like them both, don't get me wrong, but the only problem I have with Unthought Known is that it's pretty much the same repeated vocal melody on each line of the song. I definitely think it will grow on me though.

That having been said, I LOVE every song on this album, and my early favorites are Amongst the Waves, Got Some, Force of Nature, and Just Breathe (especially the "Did I say that I need you" part; I get goosebumps every time!).

Sorry to say, but in my opinion album version of Speed of Sound is crap. I said it and I repeat.
I can't listen to it, my ears hurt and I feel ashamed.

    Sorry, even Foxymop is better...
I don't know how it happened but They did it. They ruin fantastic song. Like from the top to the deepest bottom.

agree with the OP here, so far the ONLy song I would consider skipping.

Id have taken that. The demo was ok, but nothing special either. I dont even think its that different in the bigger picture

Album version is fuller and more layered, and i think its fits better on Backspacer because of it. I really like the melody of the song...........its starts off slow, but treads and flows gently across the middle of the song. Beautiful.

The guitar work shines better on the demo, but overall I like the album version better.

People are comparing this to the Gone demo/studio version as far as a let down goes, but I disagree completely. The studio version of Gone lost all of the grit/soul, where I still think Speed of Song is able to deliver the same feel. but just in a modified package.
