Flagg wrote:Been a Long Time from the Before the Frost CD is the Black Crowes in a nutshell. Dirty sounding guitars, catchy chorus, and then the long jam between the keyboard, then the harmonica, then the lead. This is closest they have come to capturing their live act on a CD so far. I guess because it was recorded live! Awesome.
And Until the Freeze is amazing. Wow.
Yes, they are going through a huge country phase right now, but at least it is classic country and not the crap that passes for country now.
Good point. I'm not a huge country fan too much, even of the older stuff (while I do realize that is the better stuff) but they have definitely settled on it in a good way.
Just the other day I finally realized that my two favorite bands are 1) Pearl Jam and 2) The Black Crowes...nothing can compare.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

SOLID RECORD ... it is a concept album per Chris ..the vinyl tracklisting is true to the concept0

Feel the exact same way. I'm no country fan either but I recognize the greatness of the classic stuff. Same on the bands. I've actually seen them more times than Pearl Jam.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Crowes put on a great show...I've actually only seen them once, however it was a show that just enlightened me on the fact that these guys are a GREAT live act. It takes a lot to make a damn good, solid record. But I think it really shows your true talent if you can play a nearly flawless show. The Crowes and PJ are certainly masters at that.
Second Crowes show is on November 15th. Can't wait.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

Still digging this. I think the back half of Before the Frost drags a little bit (except for The Last Place that Love Lives), but Until the Freeze is outstanding.
Part of me will always miss the harder rock of SYMM and Southern Harmony and sometimes I wish they would go back to it, but I like the direction they have taken and if that is what keeps them going as a band, then more power to them. And they are much better musicians now. I've always love Rich's playing though. That guy is amazing.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

I read this as Greenhorn was ending on my first listen of Until The Freeze. Amazing. These guys are on it. Possibly the best this band has ever been on a creative level right now. The Last Place That Love Lives on Before The Frost is just incredible. Haunting and beautiful. I guess I'm going to have to get my ass up to The Fillmore this December and see these guys. It's been three years, time for a re-acquaintance. Wish these guys got more exposure than they do. Truly one of the great American rock bands.0 -

I did not like the album when i first got it and played it in the cd/dl order. But when I burned it using that tracklisting, it sounded so much better. I'm still not liking it as much as I did Warpaint, but it's growing.0 -

I think I prefer it to Warpaint to be honest, it's just great and still revealing more on each listen...Astoria Crew
