I remember the days when you actually had to work in the music industry to actually succeed in it. instead of competing in a karaoke.
PJ and others succeeded because of their songs- the ones they wrote. other bands succeeded in playing other peoples tunes in bars and clubs but only to a small level, a bit of money but a struggle to make a living.
not only is this a problem for musicians but what of actors/ scriptwriters etc who now have a lot less work because of shows like idol. instead of everyone getting a wage- 1 person wins a prize. is that progress.
I dont think so
but thats just my opinion
true that. for it to be a true medium of giving these kids a break into the industry it would be a comp for people who have written their own stuff, playing their instrument and showing they actually have talent. not exactly what it is now, a glorified karaoke competition.
It's not ruining the music industry. Do you call bands that play in bars doing covers Karaoke? Pearl Jam plays covers. Is Eddie doing Karaoke? NO.
BTW violent rap and no longer selling albums is what's ruined the music industry
Just my opinion
there is a big difference in bands in a bar and bands playing covers to what idol is. i have witnessed a couple of proper karaoke competitions and you are right i shouldn't compare Idol to them, most of the talent at karaoke comps is much better.
and i also like how you can get away with saying anything as long as it's followed up by "but that's just my opinion"
Hitler was a great guy and did a lot for society, but that's just my opinion.
oh i might also add, i caught this while walking thru the living room to go outside for a smoke and on the way back in i caught Kyle saying something about difference between how Ed sings 'can't' and how he sung it, and that he couldnt get past that. i found that amusing, and i was kinda hoping he would come out with ''i cant get past how bad you are'' but alas.. maybe next week
p.s. idol is ruining the music industry. it's a glorified karaoke competition.

His 1 1/2 minute version of Better Man the other night was not great but I liked his voice.
Jonny was not Idol material... which is actually a good thing.

at least Idol isn't shoved down our throats EVERY night, like Big Brother, Biggest Loser etc;....As far as I know it's on twice a week (Sundays and Mondays) There's actually 2 people in it this year that I think are pretty good and I'll watch until they're gone. (Mark? Spano and Wes)
Disclaimer : The only watchable channel we get here (99% of the time) is ch. 10 and the kids and hubby rule the Foxtel, so I pretty much watch what ever's on ch.10
