Also - I made a formal complaint that they had sold tickets to people who went straight off and put them on Ebay and they said they are going to be investigating it. Whether they do or not, I don't know, but would be nice to know they have some kind of genuine concern for their mistake.

Well done for at least mentioning it. They may be attempting to simply save face amongst the fans, but the least we can hope for them to make it harder for the scalper bastards to get ebay sales.

Am on the phone to them now, (well listening to some crap music at the mo) - thanks Goddess for that ray of hope! Do we have to phone them for the second link?

However, I hope they are not saying it to string us along in case we cancel our preorders. I was just about to but I guess I won't now until I know there's a second link coming.

Why couldn't they have tested the links before they put them out like this?

Testing the links is one thing, the fact that their servers simply couldn't stand the load is another. The thing that seems to be angering most of us is our private emails with supposedly 'unique' links took us to the homepage of their ticketing site. I even checked my 'unique' link with a friends, and it's exactly the same.

If anyone does get through to HMV as per my previous post (about HMV saying tickets ARE still available) then please can you let us know how you get on? I am keen to know if they are just saying that to fob us off or if it is really true!

I just spoke to HMV - he confirmed all the tickets are sold out and there are no tickets left because it was a very popular offer. It went really quickly. They said they might get another allocation but don't know when yet. They said that the error link was about some people not getting them yesterday. He wasn't even sure if HMV were doing the general sale of tickets either. It might be Ticketmaster.

He also denied that the tickets went on sale before 9am. He said it would've gone live only at 9. This is crap because my computer time is set to the same as the BBC News and no-way was it 9am when the link went live, and it said tix were sold out by 8.57am.

Well if it went to their general sale site open to everyone and not a pre-sale site then that is absolute rubbish. I'm sure we have a case for an official complaint or something. :x

Is there like an industry watchdog or ombudsman we can send complaint letters to?

I asked if all of us needed to call back up again to ensure they got the link resent to them and he said, after umming and ahhing for a bit, that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure 'head office knew about it', whatever that means!! He took all my details and needed the order number from the CD presale email that I got when I ordered the CD, I guess that is their way of checking who did and did not get lucky.

Having just read that post up there, I wonder if the helpful man was just very confused when he gave me the info but he DID say there ARE tickets available. So either they have conflicting info or they are trying to appease us so we don't cancel the CD! I guess only time will tell, I don't hold out much hope - apologies if he HAS given me the wrong info but I can only go on what he said.

I have also emailed a friend in the industry to find out exactly what the guidelines are about people buying these kinds of tickets and selling them for £399 on Ebay straight away!!! I doubt there is much can be done about it but I am so sick of it that I am considering starting some kind of campaign about it.

Maybe we SHOULD all make formal complaints. I don't know about the time thing but my computer is set to bang on correct time and it didn't seen open before 9am as I tried from 8.30 and it wasn't open. BUT it did seem to be offering them for sale in general in the advertisement on the site!!

Just spoke to HMV and they have advised that all tickets have now sold out. They said that there was no problem with the link and that too many people were trying to get tickets so the server crashed. I mentioned that tickets actually went on sale to the general public as well. They said that they were not aware of this but would look into it. they have taken my phone number and email address and said they would look into it.

They said that they would not be sending out another link,. I spoke to the manager called Derek so please bombard him with your calls... (0845 603 8576) he was in the web department

Yep, total BS. My clock is spot on too, and I saw them available at 8.55, somehow I still didn't get them though :(
Is there like an industry watchdog or ombudsman we can send complaint letters to?

Probably, but HMV are pretty untouchable in terms of complaints. And sadly, the fact is we are a lot of 'angry fans who didn't get tickets', therefore most complaints probably won't get taken very seriously.

However, here are the lies listed in their email -

"If you have pre-ordered the album before the closing date, you will be sent an email with your unique email link on Monday 20th July 2009 from 17:00 GMT....The ticket pre-sale starts on Tuesday 21st July 2009 at 09:00 GMT on the hmvtickets website, only accessible via your unique email link. "

(the email code was NOT unique, any member of the public who stumbled onto the site was able to buy tickets, the email link didnt get sent to many people until just before, or in some cases, even AFTER they bought tickets, and also the tickets went on sale at 8.55am)

  • Believe me, if they don't send me the mythical 'second link' I will be writing a complaint. I'm also complaining to the booking agent and won't be buying from HMV any longer! I'll most certainly cancel my pre-sale CD and will find a nice, independent music store (does anyone know of any????) instead. I might even go against my own thoughts about unneccesary shipping and fuel and buy it from 10c as at least they try to help the fans out!

Mate I had the same thing happen to me!
I was pressing that link since 8am!

It kept saying unavailable, and then at 9am i pressed it and my browser went blank, after 5 minutes it said how many tickets you want, i selected 2 (it said that there were only 4 left) got to checkout, pressed proceed and it keeps saying 'reservation failed'.

THE TICKETS ARE STILL IN MY BASKET, god I'm such a douche for participating in this HMV Pre-Sale scam.

HMV I hope you go down like Zavvi - c**ts

Took ticketmaster years to finally get a system that didn't crash when demand was heavy. All other ticket sites still crash or are unavailable when demand is high. It's no surprise HMV couldn't cope although the demand couldn't have been that high in comaprison to say, take that shows. How many people were actually trying to get tickets?

I guess most of us are just pissed off because we didn't get a ticket but the reality is that most of us would have been left disappointed even if the system had worked perfectly but I'm still irrational enough to be pissed off about how the whole thing was managed or not in this case.

If they're still in your basket maybe worth trying putting them through again? After all, if it's in your basket surely that should mean it is reserved for you to buy?

We are pissed at not getting tickets, but I'm more annoyed at the, by my count, 5 separate lies in the HMV Terms and Conditions of the presale.

Bottom line, this should've been a 10c gig. Put tickets up for sale for 10c members for a certain time and then whatever's left go to HMV or TM or whoever.

    Simples ?

Thanks for posting Solace! This is useful for me as I can now complain officially about the fact I was lied to on the phone by a member of staff who said tickets were still available. I doubt being angry fans who didn't get tickets will get us anywhere but hey, we can try.

This all happened with the O2 as well - is it just me thinking this or shouldn't the band know that booking with o2 venues DOES NOT WORK!! All that exclusive pre sale crap for O2 customers who simply go and re-sell them.

Ok so you can hardly start only selling tickets to people based on evidence provided that they are genuine fans (LOL we would have to turn up with a life blog of gigs attended and merchandise owned!) but there has to be SOME way to stop this practice. None of us can afford those silly Ebay prices and it is really just the fans missing out.

At this rate, we'd be better off organising a UK 10c fan trip to see them playing in America - we'd probably have more luck with tickets!!
