Actually... other than people saying they disagreed with the 'God Bless America' part, the greater majority of people posted positive traits of our nation. So, i saw lots of love for America on that thread.
The thread took a turn for the worst with your post about being banned and all of that.
From there, it was mostly negative regarding your attitude and the 'God Bless America' song being played at Baseball games.

And why do people need to 'Change'? Change to what? I don't expect anyone to change... I'll accept them for who they are, regardless of their opinions. I don't expect anyone to change their views to be the same as mine. All i do is express things based upon the way that I see them... knowing people see the same thing from different viewpoints.

after reading some of your other posts, part of me is thinking it's pointless trying to engage in a discussion with you, because you just seem so angry and unwilling to have an open mind for anyone elses views. i'll try to explain anyway.

I don't understand why you feel like you do, that when anyone speaks out about some injustice or wrong that they feel has been committed by the government, they are accused of hating America. They may not be in agreeance with the direction some things are heading in, but haters? Nar. I just don't see it. Patriotism has never been blind allegiance to people or policy. Patriotism is loyalty to an ideal - to principle. When i feel that an injustice has been committed, or our ideals or principles have been betrayed, i can't help but to speak out in defense of them. I speak out to preserve what I feel is great. I speak out because of what I love about this country, not out of hate. Don't you see this?

Well I've read some of your responses as well and was going to comment at how well reasoned and open minded your responses seem. Im reacting to a pattern of behavior that has existed in this part of the pit for years. Not just a single post or position of someone who doesn't agree with "the government". Whose fond of the of the government? Not me.

What bothers me about this place is that some people do in fact come here to do nothing but bash. Nothing this country does can ever be good enough. I abandoned this place a long time ago when W was still in office and this was a cauldron of rebellion. Good stuff most of it. But there was a good deal of malice and general.....scariness beneath it all.

But now i'm just baffled...This country just underwent a monumental change. A change that is having global significance and the bashing continues. It's just a few people now as opposed to dozens before or scores before. Mostly fans of the band, allegedly, who were either European or Canadian or Australian came here to espouse their general views of contempt of the United States, or Israel. For some reason the latter seems to be an obsession over here.

You would have thought that with Obama trotting the globe shaking hands and making friends and winding wars down the rhetoric would have calmed down. And largely it has. But what I found unnerving was the level of contempt and animosity for my country, as opposed to my President, that remains. Big f'n difference to me to me...Call my President an asshole and your talking about him. That's fine.

So out of morbid curiosity I start a thread called God Bless America...Let's see what the tempertaure is ya know? And nice to see most people seem able to wrap their head around being ok with being an American or just generally being ok with America. And that was cool. But then one very predictable fellow had to chime in with God Less America.......See that's about us. Those people need to go. Its not cool anymore. And for that I got banned and that pisses me off.

But then one very predictable fellow had to chime in with God Less America.......See that's about us. Those people need to go. Its not cool anymore. And for that I got banned and that pisses me off.

I know it's easier said than done, but you just have try and switch off if you find someone particulary irritating and you obviously are not making any grounds with them when you debate. If you present your thoughts respectfully, and they do theirs, and they differ, we just have to accept that people disagree. We are never going to all feel the same on everything. I have actually learned so much from people who do have different views from me.

I always also try and keep in mind, that people are very, very passionate about some of the subjects that are dicussed here, so there is bound to be some tempers flaring.

I don't know if you were around when the old board closed, but one thing that was really heart warming for me, was seeing in the final days, people who had for years been in constant conflict with each other, being gracious and respective of each other. Complimenting each other, and genuinely wishing them well for the future. We just need to understand that peoples views are not a personal attack on us, just because they differ.

Before I do though, I just want to say that you're not very good at debating, encinoman, brmlaw, last exodus, or whatever the fuck it is, because you seem to like to do this thing where you don't actually discuss the issue and instead you waste time accusing people of hating Jews or hating America or loving Iran or whatever weak rightwing argument you stole from the shitty media. If anything, this message board would not be that great seeing as how you are trying to silence people you disagree with. For example, I may disagree with you or jlew but I never actually think you should be banned for your views. It's just how you express them in such a remarkably shitty way that you get banned for it. And no, I don't really think this message board is that fucking serious, it's just a place to come when I'm bored to either discuss the band or read a few topics on MT. You're the one trying to give it more attention that it really needs. Anyway, before I waste more time...

Thats all very sane and rational and typically if its a subject that I am not passionate about I could give a fart. A couple of things just rub me wrong...Ya know? And im not really the walk away from a good fight type. Even if that means running afoul of the powers that be. I think thats all in the spirit. But I hear ya.

Here's my other little pet peeve and ill leave it there. Im a real stickler for history. There seems to be a fair amount of young people who come in here and read some of this garbage that people with their cut and paste try to pass off as news followed by more cut and paste of their view of history and it's just fucking wrong! I cant walk away from that. If your gonna go gonzo public with your personal political historical rants, at least get it right....Bugs me.
