you cant blame a guy for tyring to actually get an answer from the 10c
but I agree with you0 -

thanks
but how do you think those web postings came into existence?? people breaking the well established rule... its a matter of respect for ed... and it cheapens what hes doing because i doubt anyone took any half decent footage (as is almost always the case with fan recordings) and if they did it means they were in someones way doing so
i would rather picture what these shows must be like instead of some shoddy videos ruining the mystique0 -
If you allow people to post the vids then you just encourage more people to tape the shows .....making the live experience less enjoyable for those in attendance.Van 92.07.21 / Van 98.07.19 / Sea 98.07.22 / Tor 98.08.22 / Sea 00.11.06 / Van 03.05.30/ Van 05.09.02/ Gorge 06.07.22 & 23 / EV Van 08.04.02 / Tor 09.08.21 / Sea 09.09.21 & 22 / Van 09.09.25 / Van 11.09.25 / Van 13.12.04 / Pem 16.07.17 / Sea 18.08.100

I agree with what you are saying. 100% percent.
But they have always been very tolerant of fan recordings etc.
(And I must selfishly admit I was looking forward to seeing them today!)
It makes sense. If they cant post it, there is less incentive to record it.
I hate the phones and cameras, that was part of the reason I walked out of the "pit" at lolla to many damn phones.0 -

Camera phones are annoying, but this one was a 'pro' camera one and they're far more discreet..
and it's nice for those of us not there to be able to get an idea of what the show was like (second hands accounts don't say it like a video).
But I can live without videos... what I'm really waiting for are the audios!
But if 10c stamps on those like on the Vids, I'm going to be seriously disappointed in Ed :(0 -
Get_Right wrote:Actually, I agree with this.
Just curious as to why the change.
Because the phones are annoying as hell to both EV and the concert goers?
Good reason.
I'm assuming it has a lot to do with what happened at the VIC show last year. When Eddie opened for the band, the use of camera's/video camera's/cell phones was incredible, I've never seen anything like it. The whole place had flashes going off... If you listen to the boot you can hear Eddie stop his first song and refer to the craziness of all these people snapping his picture.
Would you want your picture snapped with flashes going off constantly at a short distance? No... so why do it to someone else? I thought common sense would have been good enough, but I like the new rules.0 -

I agree. I think the new rules are good, even though it sounds like they aren't being followed.
I don't understand why it is so hard for people to understand why they are taking the videos off youtube. Why would they say no cameras and then allow people to post videos they recorded secretly?
There is something to be said for just being in the moment and having an experience with a group of people and music that cannot be seen on youtube the day after the show."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -
I'm hoping that they don't want the footage up on youtube because they're planning on releasing something themselves. There are a lot of us who couldn't be there and would love to see it on video. That said, I do hate it when the whole venue is full of flashing cell phones. But a professionally shot vid would be fantastic.0

the no video policy has always existed.
in the last few months, 10c and the mods seemed to have become even less bothered about videos tradings and links (even before Jeff said he didn't mind YT)...the basecamp part of the forums has been basically taken over by traders and B&Pers, of DVDs even more than audio.
so for them to not just remove links here, but have the video officially taken down from YT, it's drastic! even videos of 'unmentionables' are left alone on YT!
not that it's going to be of any use, on the contrary:
censorship creates MORE interest in what's censored. pushing people who would have had no interest in it to go looking for it, just because it's not allowed...that's the original sin remember

whatever people... dont bother fighting it... youll all be glad you waited when you see the live DVD for the first time... and i think a DVD is basically "guarenteed"

OK..."societal voyeurism?" I think we're being a little overly dramatic. It's not like these people put videotapes in dressing rooms; the guy is onstage performing in front of thousands of people, I wouldn't really feel guilty of 'voyeurism' since the videos are, after all, from public performances. After all, we're all a little hypocritical here; I would bet everyone in this thread, at one time or another has watched footage of a PJ show shot by an audience member.
I think it's probably happening for one or two reasons; 1, they want to dissuade more people taping the shows or 2, they have a professional release planned further down the line. I doubt it is number 2, and hope it's not, since they'd be thinking more with their pocketbooks then for respect for audience and performer. But venue and artist are totally within their right to outlaw it.
That being said, it is a shame that those who will have no way to see these shows will not be able to see any of these performances unless there is a professional release. I'd love to see how these shows look and sound and I don't see how my knowing how these shows sounds 'cheapens' the feel for the concert-goers.
Also, I think it is a bit ironic how they can hire someone to make sure these videos are taken down from youtube within minutes, but yet they find it difficult to find someone who can adjust the damn server to handle the traffic come tour time.0 -

I'm with you....I wish they did this for ALL shows. Too many idiots holding up the phones for their friends to hear....its stupid.0 -

While the video policy has always existed, they went out of their way to say no to cameras, videos, etc. And then you still wonder why they would take videos off youtube.
More to the point is what I posted earlier:
There is something to be said for just being in the moment and having an experience with a group of people and music that cannot be seen on youtube the day after the show.
And I seriously doubt there will be a full length video officially released. Maybe a song as an extra on a full band DVD later."We're fixed good, lamp-wise."0 -

I don't see how the fact some people who were not there can see the performance later in ANY way can diminish the enjoyment of the people actually attending the show.
if it does bother you, I categorise this as selfish and elitist.. you only can enjoy it if other people don't?
and don't believe either there will be a DVD (I don't mind), nor even an audio (I do mind :()0 -
I totally agree with the new policy!
I hate it when people in front of hold up their camera or cell phone to film or take pictures.
From an on stage perspective......the crowd dynamics must have changed so much during the last 5 years. Look at the last PJ DVD and compare it with TB 2000. I think recently a lot of people look at the show through their cell phone while filming Eddie singing instead of watching what is really going on on stage.....
My opinion anyways.....0 -

I cannot stand assholes that think they can just do what ever the hell they want just because they want to.
so you don't own any bootlegs of bands that don't allow people to record? cause, you can't have it both ways.0 -
I have no problem with them taking down these video's and I hope they continue to do so. Hopefully this will discourage people from standing in the crowd with their camera/cell phone in the air for an entire show just so they have something to post on YouTube/Facebook.
I was recently at the Foo Fighters show in Toronto and it was out of control....every Tom, Dick and Harry was recording the show with their camera's or cell phones. I have no desire to waste my time recording the show when I'm actually there experiencing it. The guy in front of me recorded the entire 2nd half of the show and I was forced to have this stupid LCD display in front of me all night. I came to watch the Foo's live...not through your stupid cell phone.
YouTube is ruining live music....thats a fact...Jack...."No need to be void,...or save up on life...You got to spend it all....."0 -
I cant be there to see it in person. I would love to be able to see at least some part of it. Sucks for those not going, unless they are planning on some kind of release.
