the fact is that you could practice hard and be Pearl Jam. There is nothing innovative about them. They have 2 good guitar players, a solid rhythm section and a very good lead singer. You couldn't practice and be Radiohead. You can't teach the shit they do. That's why I say they are more talented. Pearl Jam is very very very good, but there are cover bands that sound just like them. You never see a Radiohead cover band and it's not due to lack of popularity or demand, it's because most their songs are too technical to play right.

Both bands put on great live shows. I've seen Radiohead three times and each show has been memorable. But both band do have strange touring ideologies of late. At least Radiohead came to Indy.

Both bands put on great live shows. I've seen many great PJ shows, but no band has ever topped Radiohead's performance at Bonnaroo in 2006. Pearl Jam is still my favorite band though.
  • The radiohead show in Dallas last year was by FAR the best concert I have ever been to. Just mindblowing what they can do. To each his own about if you like Radiohead or not but you cannot knock their talent.

Aww, reading about PJ and RH in this thread makes me nostalgic! I have been to ZERO concerts in the past 5 years...but the last two I attended were Pearl Jam and Radiohead in the summer of noughty three! They played the same venue when I lived in New England.

I got stuck in the traffic jam of cars filing into the carpark for the RH show, so I missed seeing the band take the stage. I was treated to the sounds of "Creep" as I walked up to the building. They closed out with "Idioteque," which had me jumping up and down.

PJ had an especially personal moment: Ed sang "I Am Mine," which he wrote after seeing his fans die at Roskilde. Four months earlier, my sister walked away from the Station Nightclub Fire where exactly 100 other people died. "All the Innocents lost at one time. We're safe tonight."

I have to admit, the PJ show I saw in 2000 was much more poignant. It took place just 2 months after Roskilde. A barefoot Eddie was trying to hide under a full beard. A fan gave him 2 carnations (one red, one yellow.) He was deeply touched, and put the flowers in his mic stand by wrapping them in loops of wire. He interacted with the audience more than any other show I'd been a part of. When we applauded the band, he applauded us. I had never seen him so obviously Loving and appreciative. Inappropriately but purposefully, the band performed "Jeremy" with its dead lying in pools of maroon below, and "Alive." To top it all off, Mike (clad in white leather) smashed his expensive guitar into the stage! Bliss.

...........................Now I live in L.A. and have the chance to see PJ in a small venue! It's not walking distance like the Ed solo shows I missed last year, but Universal City is just a 15 minute ride on the subway. Four concerts on my Birthday Week! I MUST BE THERE!!!
"May you live in interesting times."

I drove for 2.5 hours today...
I listened to an old mix of live and rare PJ...
then In Rainbows, start to finish.
Not once did I think about which band was 'better'.
    They both fucking rock.
