I could say the same for everyone here with Eddie Vedder and anything the band puts out. I don't follow either band blindly. Pearl Jam is my favorite band, but if I think they fucked up on something I'll say it, I don't have a blind love for them where I stick up for everything they do.
For example, I think Fixxer or whatever that song was on Conan sucked. It sounded like a bunch of 50 year olds with no inspiration left coming out and trying to push something to prove they still have it. But the next day i was blasted for saying it while there were a ton of people saying things like "It grew on me after I listened to it a couple times". People force themselves into believing everything the band does is right. I Don't0 -

"Fixxer" i.e. Get Some wasn't that bad, I thought it was good. Riot Act sucks, so do Radiohead and everyone on the Cavs except for Lebron

agree with everything you have posted in this thread. i think a lot of people are scared to admit when PJ puts out a bad album because they feel it will make them less of a fan. and in return, you have a lot of people getting forced into something that they may not like.
i didn't like riot act since day one, and once the honeymoon was over with avocado, i probably haven't listened to it more than five times since. your comment about their conan performance was the same opinion i had about avocado... bunch of older guys putting out a mediocre (at best) rock album to try and prove they still have it. i can't help to think that backspacer is going to be similiar (hope i am very wrong).
pearl jam will forever be my favorite band, but yes... radiohead rocks. and rocks hard.0 -

That is their first album your referring to and is not a good measuring stick for the band. I like Radiohead and I have not listened to that album since 1996. Everything else they have put out is amazing although I thought Hail to the Thief had some rough spots. I would suggest starting with the album "The Bends".OceansJenny wrote:
Ugh. Radiohead is terrible. Bunch of slow wailey music. BLAHHH. Someone made me get that yellowly ugly album with the guy on it and I ended up selling it on eBay after 1 listen.Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -
+1. My progression in terms of getting into the band was: OK Computer -> The Bends -> In Rainbows -> Hail to the Thief -> Kid A -> Amnesiac. If you like electronic music, go backwardsJason P wrote:

Ten is widely considered the 3rd best debut album of all time, behind Led Zep I and Appetite For Destruction.
I dunno what qualifies as a great album, to you, but if Ten-Yield aren't great albums I've never heard one.0 -

are you joking? who ranks it #3? ahead of Exile on Main St? ahead of Rubber Soul?
just for kicks I looked at Rolling Stone's list of the top 500 (not saying they know anything, but it's comprised of opinions of about 25 people including artists so it's somehwat of a legit list)
Radiohead had 3: 110 The Bends, 162 OK Computer 428 Kid A
Pearl Jam had 2: 207 Ten, 492 Vitalogy

This speaks volumes. Rubber Soul and Exile, debut albums?? And you're relying on RS to find out the best albums.0 -

This has my vote as the most ridiculous thread ever. :!:0

The opinion of 25 people is a ridiculously small sample on a planet of over 7 billion, or even the smaller sample of 300 million americans. Further more, artists don't always have good taste. So, these factors do not make it a legit list. Rolling Stone should be read ONLY to keep up on music and entertainment news, mainstream politics with a leftist viewpoint, and their opinions should be read only for entertainment value.thunderDAN wrote:DewieCox wrote:thunderDAN wrote:are you joking? who ranks it #3? ahead of Exile on Main St? ahead of Rubber Soul?

Also, my favorite PJ album is Yield, but even from a mainstream perspective, you can't include Ten and Vitalogy without Vs.0 -
I don't like Radiohead much anymore, not since Ok Computer, but at least they played Atlanta on their last tour. That's more than I can say for Pearl Jam.0
-
Radiohead are a better band than Pearl Jam.
They just are. They're much more consistent and just have so many mindblowing songs...really, since The Bends, everything they've done has been at the least very good. And to those who are trying to justify their opinions by calling Thom Yorke a pussy, how old are you? Why, because he's a not a fucking balls to the wall, in your face guy like Eddie used to be? Get over yourselves, the guy is pretty much a songwriting genius.
And I don't understand the "boring" argument. They have just as many up-tempo songs as ballads, it just so happens that they're pretty fucking skilled at writing the more haunting, ethereal kind of stuff.
I mean, check out "Bodysnatchers" if all you care about is how hard they rock.0
