This morning I have been watching SRV live clips.

This guy is/was an absolute freak. A musician is 1 in a million people. This guy is 1 in a million musicians. IMO there has never been anyone who has had such mastery of a guitar.

    He's better than Jimi; Jimi's overrated

    I love Jimi, don't get me wrong...but I'd have to agree on this...my personal opinion...I think Jimi Hendrix was a bit sloppy...but that doesn't make him a shitty musician...I just find SRV's playing to be more clear and precise. I do believe that they both played with the same amounts of soul though.

    My dad was fortunate enough to see SRV on his last tour, about a month before he died in that unfortunate helicopter crash :cry:

    SRV's definitely a guitar god of highest order.

    SRV is badass, but for me he's too one dimensional to be put above Hendrix or Page as far as mainstream rock guitarists go.

    If your a SRV or Hendrix fan you'll be interested in a guitarist named Chris Duarte. Great player who plays small bars all over the country. web: chrisduartegroupfans.org . youtube & listen to "Hear my Train a Coming" all 3 parts, just incredible! I promise you will not be disappointed in any of his performances, he really gets into it, well worth the $15 -$20 to see him.

    I love SRV for his playing of the blues southern style but Jimi covered it ALL for the time period he played. If Jimi lived for some time longer we could get a better comparison of their playing ability. SRV is in the top 10 just behind Joe Satriani.

    Yeah, Page is is brilliant in his own right...but SRV just owns when it comes to the blues.

    Considering how much Stevie Ray admired and emulated Hendrix I think he'd be offended at the suggestion that Jimi is overrated.

    I'm not a musician but I'm ancient enough to have seen both SRV and Hendrix live and they are both 2 of my absolute faves. I don't get into debates about who is the greatest guitar player because it depends on so many things: personal taste, genre, the years they played, the era they played in, etc. People build on the techniques of players that came before them so maybe we haven't even heard the best player yet. ;)

    But when it comes down to it, Jimi and SRV were both just bitchin. :D

    4x maybe... and page is only 1/4 of that... didnt mean to take away from zeppelin... im a fan... just dont think jimmy had the creativity of jimi... and even though SRV was practically impersonating jimi he still had twice the soul of jimmy...

We all love Jimi, but you can't be serious about with your lambasting of Stevie Ray Vaughn. Just because he looked like white trash from Texas (and maybe he was) doesn't take away from his guitar brilliance.

    This snotty little kid got to see SRV open for Robert Plant in May '88 (Plant's "Now and Zen" tour) ... SRV was simply amazing ... so fortunate that I got to see him before he passed away.
