Stevie Ray Vaughan

This morning I have been watching SRV live clips.
This guy is/was an absolute freak. A musician is 1 in a million people. This guy is 1 in a million musicians. IMO there has never been anyone who has had such mastery of a guitar.

where would everyone else here (who are more knowledgable than me) rank SRV in terms of guitar

#2 right behind Jimi
I thought the world...Turns out the world thought me
Roberto Clemente.
I love Jimi, don't get me wrong...but I'd have to agree on this...my personal opinion...I think Jimi Hendrix was a bit sloppy...but that doesn't make him a shitty musician...I just find SRV's playing to be more clear and precise. I do believe that they both played with the same amounts of soul though.
My dad was fortunate enough to see SRV on his last tour, about a month before he died in that unfortunate helicopter crash

SRV is badass, but for me he's too one dimensional to be put above Hendrix or Page as far as mainstream rock guitarists go.
What You Giving
I suggest you step out on your Porch.
Run away my son. See it all. Oh, See the World!
but we'll get no where comparing guitar gods

Yeah, Page is is brilliant in his own right...but SRV just owns when it comes to the blues.

I'm not a musician but I'm ancient enough to have seen both SRV and Hendrix live and they are both 2 of my absolute faves. I don't get into debates about who is the greatest guitar player because it depends on so many things: personal taste, genre, the years they played, the era they played in, etc. People build on the techniques of players that came before them so maybe we haven't even heard the best player yet.
But when it comes down to it, Jimi and SRV were both just bitchin.
Led Zeppelin's music has 10x the scope of Hendrix and SRV combined.

Anyone who thinks SRV is remotely in Jimi's league needs to burn alive in a guitar warehouse fire.

You crazy man, you like Leon Spinks man wid dah crazy teeth. Page had no Curtis Mayfield riffs, maaaaaaaan. It wuzz all ripoff low-note blues, or ripped off Bert Jansch. What kinda crazy shit you be hustlin', fo' shizzle. Dang.
That's like saying this bloke is better than Elvis:

Mikey's much better than SRV, I reckon. He's got a better backing band for a start.
Egads, that sounded like Mr. Bean after a visit to the dentist.

are all fantastic
once you reach that level its a matter of style preference
thing is hendrix was first and his playing more varied than either page or srv
page has always been my personal fav though
Whatever you are, be a good one --Lincoln
like a previous post said once you get to that level who f'n cares who's the best? really...
Think I read that somewhere.
i think most slick geetar players would say the same thing about srv. he could sure whip those notes out like a madman going 100mph in the 55zone. intense. detailed. f'n rockin.
it's a good observation and for sure both died way before their time...same as lennon. guess we're just lucky to have what we got
fuck yes!
bump!
