I know the band said September but I honestly think they were either unsure or fucking with us. I'm extremely confident it will be out July.

Maybe there will be an advertising campaign to coincide with the Conan appearance?

    that picture is great.

But it reminds me of when those fake tour dates make the rounds on the boards....when they're completely unrealistic...they don't get deleted...

    hmm...

Maybe someone should make a topic about September Release Date....and see how long it lasts haha.

exactly. you need to finish off an album, give it a couple of months build up with a single on the radio and some marketing across the board and then release the album to the public. I know everyones hoping for a summer album but by music biz standards, we're looking at a fall release.

not necessarily at all. radiohead announced it a week before, as did the raconteurs with their recent disc. there are no "music biz standards" in the traditional sense anymore. artists are creative in their distribution. pearl jam could send it out digitally next week, and release a physical version (at target?) in a few months.

you have a point about the digital releases but, i think bands like radiohead are putting their music out there on digital format to try to avoid an unexpected early release (ie - someone uploading an unfinished version of the album online). The album Hail to the thief was named that in reference to all the people that got a hold of their previous stuff and were burning it illegally.
I don't think Pearl Jam are too concerned about digital releases. They've always been about the hard copy format. But that's just my opinion.

It could be September, but clearly the band has two big motivators (the Conan appearance and the August live shows) to release it sooner.

Maybe, but aren't Toronto and Chicago already sold out. So it's not like they're going to sell anymore tickets if they release the album beforehand.

More likely they'd sell more bootlegs if the shows contained songs from the still unreleased album.

I don't think there's a bootleg system planned for these shows.

Right, but a lot of casual fans hold those tickets, people who will be more inclined to go buy the album the next day if they liked what they heard at the show. Plus, you also get a lot of radio play when a band is about to play in a big city, and ideally you'd have the CD available for listeners who like it and want to buy it.

Also, on a more basic level, don't you think the guys are excited to play these new songs?

We're probably all wasting our time with these guesses, as I for one have no clue about what goes into it from all the mastering/distribution/artwork angles. But to me, it's a 100% no-brainer that they'll get this album out as soon as they can without compromising quality.
