Yes way. I worked backstage in NY area for years. I worked about 30 shows at Jones Beach, and about another 250 shows at MSG, Nassau, CAA, and Hammerstein mostly. I could explain further, but suffice it to say a sponsor of the venue has practically nothing to do with the shows.
dont see how that is possible since MSG and Nassau is so liberal and Jones beach is so strict, regardless
might be since Jones beach is in the middle of nowhere and the only way really to get there is by car, that was my thought process. I would imagine a sponsor who is paying a ton of money to a venue has some say in how the venue works0 -

beautiful location, but thats where it ends
and if the wind blows just a little bit, the sound is awful
damn shame about uniondale, I think we were about to get an epic show until "it" happened
I completely agree with you. Unless you're in that lower tier the sound can be pretty off. I was stuck up towards the back for night 2 in 2000 and thought it was a great show, but the sound just wasn't great where I was and took away from the intensity of the experience.0 -

thats 3 words but anyway lol
it is state land but guess who pays for those venues to run? the sponsors, the state of NY is not footing the bill
hence why haven't you seen Marilyn manson? or ozzfest there?0 -

Thru 2000.
The promoter who is now Live Nation (formerly Delsener/Slater, then SFX, then Clear Channel, now Live Nation) books shows at most of the NY area venues - (actually, now that LN is one big monopoly, they book all over the world) so they just line up a band with a venue, and voila, a show... and string a bunch of those together for a tour. It's a bit more complex than that, but that's the gist of it. I worked for Delsener/Slater as well as Metropolitan Ent - competing companies, now both together under Live Nation.
...but it sounds like you are talking about who handles the management of the venue which deals more with the fan's experience (policies for alcohol, etc, though if I remember correctly there's no alcohol allowed on state park property) and not so much to do with who plays at a venue. That is very much a venue-to-venue difference and venues as far as fans are concerned can have big differences. Seems like that is what you meant now.
Whether or not a band chooses a venue due to policies of the venue, I don't know if they know that in advance. I'd speculate that a band will recall whether they personally remember having a good experience at a venue, and probably also book based on that as well as financials, as venues have different operating costs.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

I was never good at math anyway
I know, but the state retains some liability for what happens on its property-hence the limited alcohol sales and strict lot enforcement
same with the APW festival in jersey, alcohol sales are limited due to the festival being on state property0 -
there are definitely better venues to choose from....great tailgating, looks nice, but that's about it.Need a tour Travel Agent??? Pick me :-)

What do you mean?
marilyn manson played jones beach in 2001.
ozzfest played in 2004.
When the Theater at the Garden (under MSG arena) was called "The Paramount", they also didn't have a say in the booking process. As far as I know, nothing has changed.ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you.

that would be a promoter/artist issue, not a venue management issue... unless bands know there's no alcohol allowed (at least for fans) at JBA, then they may choose to play Nassau instead, which IMO is not a better option, except for alcohol allowed. Playing MSG is a whole other ballgame, since it costs so much.
