thats 3 words but anyway lol
it is state land but guess who pays for those venues to run? the sponsors, the state of NY is not footing the bill
hence why haven't you seen Marilyn manson? or ozzfest there?

    What do you mean?

marilyn manson played jones beach in 2001.
    ozzfest played in 2004.

When the Theater at the Garden (under MSG arena) was called "The Paramount", they also didn't have a say in the booking process. As far as I know, nothing has changed.

...but it sounds like you are talking about who handles the management of the venue which deals more with the fan's experience (policies for alcohol, etc, though if I remember correctly there's no alcohol allowed on state park property) and not so much to do with who plays at a venue. That is very much a venue-to-venue difference and venues as far as fans are concerned can have big differences. Seems like that is what you meant now.
exactly what i meant, was trying to figure what jones beach problem was for a while now

that would be a promoter/artist issue, not a venue management issue... unless bands know there's no alcohol allowed (at least for fans ;) ) at JBA, then they may choose to play Nassau instead, which IMO is not a better option, except for alcohol allowed. Playing MSG is a whole other ballgame, since it costs so much.

You know, I do have the answer to which venue.

PEARL JAM AT LIBERTY STATE PARK.
It's the most breathtaking view of Manhattan as the backdrop to the stage, and next to the statue of liberty.

...and MAKE IT A 20TH ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL WITH:
-Soundgarden (back together for this event only)
    -Ben Harper
    -Buzzcocks
    -and other bands

Plus, with special guests Jack Irons, Dave Abbruzzese and Dave Krusen joining Pearl Jam for a few songs each.

Logistically Liberty State Park is a nightmare. It took like 3 hours to even get back on the ferry saturday night after Radiohead last year and you had to drink your beer in this little stupid enclosure.

    Exactly!

WHO could resist? Seriously - a 20th anniversary festival, with all past and present members of Pearl Jam performing, as well as a super collection of like-minded music.

...anyone want to join in a letter-writing campaign to PJ headquarters with me? It may get some attention. :)

(and there's logistical issues with every venue except major cities - I'd take the above event in exchange for 4 hours of traffic!)

Its been a long time since I saw a show at the FHTS. Grew up in Astoria, it was only 15 minutes away by car from home but I still don't know how we made it back being so damn drunk. I didn't drive then but I was stupid enough to get in the car. The things we did when we were young :?

Yeah now it is the 'Comcast Theatre,' not to be confused with the 'Comcast Center' right up the road in Mansfield, MA. Whatever happened to the good old days of just calling venues a name and sticking with it (like The Meadows or Great Woods)? Corporate bullshit. Those are both great names btw and they will be how I refer to those venues forever!

Yes way. I worked backstage in NY area for years. I worked about 30 shows at Jones Beach, and about another 250 shows at MSG, Nassau, CAA, and Hammerstein mostly. I could explain further, but suffice it to say a sponsor of the venue has practically nothing to do with the shows.
    how long ago ?
dont see how that is possible since MSG and Nassau is so liberal and Jones beach is so strict, regardless
might be since Jones beach is in the middle of nowhere and the only way really to get there is by car, that was my thought process. I would imagine a sponsor who is paying a ton of money to a venue has some say in how the venue works

Not quite the way things work, just ask OBI
JB is still my favorite venue, i have to see at least one show there a summer even though I'm now a jersey girl
I saw all 3, not as good as the garden shows, but GREAT to see PJ there

Come back to Long Island, PLEASE
    '96 7 shows / '97 3 shows / '98 15 shows
    '00 12 shows / '03 4 shows / '06 6 shows
    '08 3 shows / '09 5 shows / '10 6 shows

I know. Its annoying. Like when Mansfield and Camden were both called the Tweeter Center.
