Had to wait until '94 to finally see Pearl Jam, but it was worth the wait. Somehow I lucked out and was at the Fox Theatre show 4/3/94 in Atlanta, GA. Yeah, that show! 8-)
    Here's proof for the haters:

Back in Fall of 1993, Pearl Jam performed at San Jose State when I was a first-year freshman. Unfortunately I wasn't able to purchase a ticket because I didn't get to the box office early enough. They were sold out already. But back in 93, I wasn't as big a fan as I was starting in 1994. I first saw Pearl Jam in San Diego on November 6, 1995. It was the rescheduled show from June 1995 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

That was a disaster! We moved to Bellingham in June, 1995 and had to fly back to San Diego to go to that show. Such a stupid decision by the sheriff's department to cancel it at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. They said it was for security reasons, just bs.

Started seeing PJ in 92. Also saw AIC back then but missed out on Nirvana.
  • After a little googling of dates, I discovered that 1993 was a busy concert going year for me. I saw Nirvana twice. First was in April in San Francisco at the Cow Palace. It was some sort of benefit show and was before In Utero was released. Considering they weren't on tour, we were so excited! I can't remember if any of the In Utero songs were played except for Rape Me. I then saw them in December at the Forum. That was a crazy show. I didn't realize until after I got home that I had gotten a black eye from constantly being kicked in the face by all of the crowd surfers.

I saw Alice in Chains at Lollapalooza. I don't remember much about it but the venue for that year's Lolla was in some out of the way place in LA with horrible parking and it was hot and super dusty near the stage.

And finally, I saw PJ for the first time in Nov 1993 in Indio. I think I was a bigger Nirvana fan at the time but got hooked on Pearl Jam after that concert, even though everyone was throwing shoes.

    Good times.

I didn't see any of the bands in 92 or 93. but my wife and I find this to be pretty cool, I was stationed at the Coast Guard Station in Westport, WA. in 92 and 93 and my wife's hairdresser was Krist Novoselic's mom in Aberdeen, WA. We remember her talking about the band and how Krist liked to play Nintendo while on the tour. :)

I saw the RHCP/Nirvana/PJ show in L.A. in December 91.....Saw AIC at a benefit show in L.A. in 93 Tool and Primus were also on the bill, I think!

Saw Nirvana with TAD in Seattle in 1993, we were there to see Jerry Garcia Band and on the off night they announced on the radio that TAD and Nirvana were playing a benefit show for Mia Zapata at a theater that was right around the corner from our hotel.

1993 I saw Alice in Chains, Primus at Lolla in Houston we sat around all day as we went to the Peter Gabriel show the night before and were tired. AIC and Primus were the last 2 bands to play, it was funny because it had been raining all day and we should up right before the last 2 bands played, everyone was drenched in mud and we were all clean. Also we showed up so late that they weren't even taking tickets at the door, we just walked right in, I still have my unused ticket.

Pearl Jam, I didn't even realize that I saw them in 1991 till a few years ago, when I lived in Houston I saw EVERY Red Hot Chili Peppers show when they played in the 80's and 90's, I went to both of these shows below.

12/07/91 - Unicorn Ballroom: Houston, TX
supporting: Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers
set: Alive, Jeremy, Why Go, Porch
    notes: Setlist may be incomplete.
    poster

    12/08/91 - Vatican: Houston, TX
supporting: Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers
    attendance: 950
notes: This venue (now the Abyss) is a former movie theater/church/club which was so packed this night that there were long gaps between songs to get people off of each other.

I also saw PJ @ Lolla in 1992 and saw them play in Nacogdoches, TX in Nov. 1993 with Urge Overkill as the opening act during the Vs. Tour and the in March of 1994 we saw PJ play 2 shows at The Fox in St. Louis on the Vs. Tour a couple of days before we were going to see the Grateful Dead in Chicago. This was still in the early stages of PJ popularity I was only 24, my friends were between 26-28 and we were EASILY the oldest people at the show.

People were FREAKING OUT when we told them we came from Houston for the show as this was before people really traveled to see PJ and 2 of my friends sat behind the guys from Blind Melon. Great times in my life and memories that will last a life time, I will be 40 in June, I still go to plenty of shows, but NOTHING compares to those days, seeing Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead, Phish, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Butthole Surfers, to quote EV, "I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine." I have had a very good in between! :D

I have a GREAT wife who lets me go to shows still, Pearl Jam in Mexico in 2005, PJ in SF 2006, PJ @ Lolla 2007, PJ @ MSG, Hartford and Boston 2008 and Phish at Deercreek and Alpine Valley AND Bonnaroo in 2009, she's a saint. Some people are addicted to drugs, booze, sex, in addicted to seeing shows and concerts and luckily I live in Austin so i get to see plenty.

Friday 25 September 1992 Alice in Chains opened for Ozzy @ Oklahoma State Fairgrounds, I worked as a paramedic in OKC for 13 years and was working this event. Layne Staley was flying all over the place on an ATV and we got called in for a broken foot or something. One of the other guys ended up wrapping his leg up in a trailer with the band standing around. Ozzy came in with a female doctor he had on tour with him apparently and was concerned whether they could open for him. AIC kept saying not a problem and they ended up carrying him out on stage on a sofa. Ozzy was clear and lucid, absolutely no problems understanding a word he said. AIC did have a stack of posters on a table there, I didnt know one song of theirs at the time so it was no big deal to me. Couldnt tell you much of the show other then it was LOUD but I was next to an OCPD who videotaped the entire concert because I was always standing by a cop when I could it was crazy energy there.

Nirvana I also worked on 12/08/1993. I actually had heard of them at the time and knew a few songs. This event was inside and they had a decent crowd but nothing crazy. They seemed very laid back and several times before the show they were within 3-4 feet of me. Wicked ending to the show where they start trashing guitars and everything. Kurt was last one left on stage and he had been smashing his guitar around for 5 minutes trying to silence it. Tossing it over the lighting rig and just piss pounding it into the stage, finally he walked over to it, pulled the cord out and tossed his hands in the air and walked off, place went nuts.

I could have worked PJ, I think they came twice but I wasnt that big into them either at that time, had their cd's forwhatever reason I passed :( I worked a ton of concerts down there, No Doubt opening for Bush, Rob Zombie, Ice Cube, Offspring, marilyn manson etc
Ten Club # 433608, when I am 80 I will be in the front row!

I saw PJ in Dallas in 93...thats what started it all...butthole surfers opened and were horrific.

Agreed on the Butthole Surfers. I saw PJ in Mesa, AZ in 1993, at a 5,000-seat amphitheater. Got right up on the rail and it was amazing.

Also saw AIC at Lolla 93 and honestly remember not being that impressed with them.

Had a chance to see Nirvana at the AZ State Fair in October of 1993, but got too stoned and decided not to go to the show. We were like 'nah, we'll just see them next time they come around...' Within a year, KC was dead. Great. So glad I smoked a bunch of dope instead of seeing them live.

i was lucky enough to see all three back then...

Nirvana i saw perform at the wallace civic center in fitchburg mass in Oct '93...it was this old, dank, abandoned hockey rink. GA show...held, i dont know...maybe 3,000? maybe my fellow new englanders know...
i also saw soundgarden at the same venue during the superunknown tour, as well as the rage against the machine, the smashing pumpkins, and porno for pyros there on different dates of course.

I also was lucky enough to see alice in chains at lollapalooza in my hometown state of rhode island in '93. with tool, rage, dinosaur jr. and primus, it was a great bill.

and lastly, i saw our glorious PJ at the old boston garden on 4/11/94...for those that were there and reviewing the timeline and the events of what had occured that week, it was an emotional experience that has rarely been matched.

I saw AIC open for Ozzy Osbourne in 1992. Layne sang the entire set from a wheelchair. I saw Nirvana in 1993 at the Bosnian Rape Victim Benefit at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. We were about fifth row (general adm.). Kurt Cobain ended the show by leaping off a tall stack of amps directly onto Dave Grohl's drum kit. He wrecked his guitar and half of the band's equipment during Endless, Nameless. At the time, I thought it was the best concert I had ever been to. I had yet to see Pearl Jam, though.

I didn't, I was 4 to 7 during the heyday of "grunge". I do have a friend who is 10 years older than me who saw all 4 of the big Seattle bands, and was at Nirvana Unplugged.
    32 shows and counting...

I saw PJ in Portland in '92.

I saw Nirvana in Portland in '92 and in Salem, OR in '93. The great thing about the Salem show is that Kurt, Dave and Pat Smear used to buy many a guitar from Guitar Castle here in Salem, OR so we hung out in front of the place all day long and around 3pm both Kurt and Pat show up. One of the best days ever!

I saw AIC in Salem, OR for their Dirt tour.

Man...Gibby Haynes is a family friend. His Dad was a children's show on a local Dallas TV station...Mr. Peppermint. He has lots of ties in Dallas.

Anyway...I saw PJ in Dallas in 10/91 and AIC on the Clash Of The Titans tour in 01/91. Screaming Trees in LA in '89, Soundgarden Lollapalooza '92.

I never wanted to see Nirvana.

Had a ticket for the Nirvana gig in Dublin. Date 8th April 94. Around the time he died.

I hope you saved that ticket. That was the day they found Kurt's body. I think they said he died on the 5th though.

I saw Pearl Jam for the first time in November 1991 at Roseland in NYC with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Smashing Pumpkins. Have seen Pearl Jam about 20 times since. Saw Alice in Chains in June 1991 at MSG opening for Slayer/Anthrax/Megadeth, I know its kind of an odd choice to open that show, then saw them again later that summer in another odd line up when they opened for Fishbone and LL Cool J and then finally saw them headline a show in 92. Saw Nirvana twice in NYC in 1993. It definitely was a glorious time for music.

pearl jam: 4-6-1994 @ springfield civic center; springfield, MA. being 14 and right on the barrier when they came out and started playing rvm...awesome

nirvana: 10-1993 @ springfield civic center. half japanese and the breeders played too. awesome.

screaming trees: 6-1992 @ riverside park (now 6 flags); agawam, MA. first band i ever saw in concert. i wish they were still together.

mudhoney: opened for pearl jam at the 4-6-94 show

sonic youth: 4-1994 @ amherst college gymnasium with dinosaur jr. opening

fugazi: 5-1995 (i think?) @ pearl st. nightclub; northampton, MA. first time seeing the most inspirational band to ever have played. yes i would trade never seeing pearl jam again to be able to see these guys one more time.

those are, i think, all the 'big name' bands i saw when i was 13-14yrs old. such a good time.
    First Show: Springfield, MA 4/6/94
