People who are always smiling

Do you know people like this? Some of my co-workers are like this, all of them female. And it's not fake smiling. They just have a genuinely cheerful disposition, ALL OF THE TIME. I don't mind it (I would mind it if it were fake) but I don't get it. I'm not an unhappy person, but my expression is typically blank unless something affects my mood. Are some people born with the "happy gene" or something??

in some sense, i think so. i don't know if there is A gene, but i do believe there has been some causal link to this....and that some people are genetically predispositioned to being positive in their outlook, whereas others are more disposed to negativity. of course, it is also part of environment, culture, upbringing...but to some degree in any case, we are predisposed to such.
i don't know many people like that, but the few that i do..i agree, completely genuine. and no, they don't have any more of gifted life than the next person...they just genuinely see the good before the bad, and manage to be content. even with our predispositions, it Is possible to at least alter our outlooks, if not change them completely. like nything else, it's not easy to change things that aren't natural to us...but ceetainly possible, and worthy. a 'positive attitude' and generally being a 'happy person' has been linked many times to... a longer, healthier, happier life. sounds good!Stay with me...

I love smiling. Smiling's my favorite."The dude abides. I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there. The Dude. Takin' her easy for all us sinners."0

I think I'm like this. My friends ask me all the time why I'm so happy all the time but I just tell them I don't have anything to be upset about. I'm alive, I'm healthy, I'm happy.0

I don't usually like - or at least don't relate to - people who are either fake smiley or always happy. I think I'm generally a pretty pissy/pessimistic person. And yet, I just realized I might fall into the category of people you're describing, especially at work. But it's not that I'm happy or fake; I'm just friendly. I think it's important to have a warm, friendly work environment.0 -
the problem i have is i apparently dont smile... not that im depressed or anything just off in my own little world most of the time. People who smile all the time are fine. provided they arent constantly asking you why you aren;t smiling.I don't mean to offend anyone, a lot of what I say should be taken with a grain of salt... that said for most of you I'm a stranger on a computer on the other side of the world, don't give me that sort of power!0

I smile a lot, though not all the time. I think I generally give off a positive, happy vibe. Life's too short to be negative0

I am smiley. that is what i blame my wrinkles on. too much smiling. But friendly smiling, not smiling assassin smiley.I have no signature0

I am one of those, at least out in public.
When people ask why I look so cheery, I have NO idea what to say. I just smile a lot, plus I find soooooo many things in life funny - from corny to morbid, sarcastic and cynical. That definitely helps keep a smile on my face.
Though, the not so light and fluffy stuff tends to shock people who don't know me. I think that's 'cause my smile is genuine and who could be so freakin' happy about thinking of disemboweling another???I carried a watermelon0 -
I have known smileys who I thought were mental defectives and they gave me the creeps, but I have known others who I could tell were generally cheerful people. My grandpa always said "you might as well laugh as to cry" and I kind of try to live by that -- or I remind myself of that a lot -- but it is hard for me as my dad's side of the familiy is generally a hot-tempered bunch and likes to raise hell. I kind of fall in the middle of that -- which might make some folks think I am a mental defective -- but I am quite a hell raiser myself more of the time. As for smiling all the time...no I do not, not that much at all actually, which doesn't mean I am unhappy but just that I am not that cheerful of a person. I've got quite a frown -- wrinkle up my forehead and all that crap -- and mom has always said I am going to have deep furrows up there if I don't stop acting that wayAll I have to do is revel in the everyday....then do it again tomorrow
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all0 -

you are!
and it's funny, i'd not expected it getting to know you here first. not that you don't come off as a friendly person, just not so smiley.
i am not smiley. i am a generally happy person, relatively friendly....but overall, i am pretty reserved and polite with people i don't know. i also can be very insular while on my own....so if i do smile, it's just my own thoughts....but i think overall i am just blank-faced most of the time. however, i must look approachable b/c total strangers come up and talk to me ALL the time....always have my whole life!Stay with me...
