Octuplet mom rant

I'm a "live and let live" kind of guy and content to usually not judge too harshly peoples' decisions, but how this woman ain't in a loony bin is beyond me. Further, this "mother" and the doctors that knowingly implanted these embryos should be tried for child abuse. This is outrageous! Even though I've chosen not to be a parent myself, I totally understand the impulses that people have to want to have children. I know adoption is prohibitively tough and expensive and I understand the desire to have a baby of your own blood. But these fertility clinics are pushing the ethical boundary into criminal territory if you ask me. Yes, octuplet birth is a medical miracle, I get the newsworthiness. But how this woman and the likes of John and Kate Plus Eight can be routinely celebrated, is beyond me. This is not natural and it's not something to emulate. These stories are becoming more and more prevalent thanks to some screwed up pseudo-celebrity status and anticipated payday. This woman thinks she's being singled out just because she's a single mom. No, it's cause you're total bat-shit crazy! At a minimum, the people undergoing this type of treatment should face the same scrutiny as those wanting to adopt. In that if you don't possess the financial, emotional, and mental faculties to care for a child, then you are out of luck. Sorry. Sometimes life sucks. Get a helmet.

At least this woman's mother can recognize this for what it is: unconscionable.

the background check, like they do with adoption, seems like a reasonable solution.0

I agree. Having a litter of 8 squirt out of your pussy is somehow seen as a fucking 'miracle' in America.... it isn't. It is science and capitalism gone amok. Science because it can be done (and never consideres if it should be done) and capitalism because it is a chance at the lottery spin... television interviews, free shit from corporations. I hope Pampers doesn't give her free diapers... I hope General Mills does not give her free food... I hope Ford does not give her a free mini-van... these are the things she is shooting for along with the publicity and possibility of a made for T.V. movie right deal.
Make the fucking doctor that implanted her pay for some of the costs of these kids... he is the surrogate Father in this case.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
Hail, Hail!!!0 -
Hasn't she said she was psychotically depressed and suicidal until 30 because she wanted babies and a big family? That doesn't seem like the right person to be raising 14 kids on her own.0

No one needs 14 kids!!!! No one!!!! This bitch is bugfuck crazy. All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.0

What really gets me is these people that have a shitload of embryos implanted by doctors, but then are totally appalled at the idea of reducing the number of fetuses... (Yes, I know that not all people make this choice.) They'll allow doctors to intervene like crazy when they're faced with the possibility of not having something they want. (As if the only way to have a family is to push them out of your own body.) Then, once they've gotten what they want, they're all for leaving it "in god's hands", despite the huge risk posed to the mother, and more importantly, the babies.0

i'm fairly certain these babies we're delivired via the auspices of c-section. Just sayin."When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0 -
just watched the Today interview.
I agree with you- now a days its popular to have a lot of children at one time and expect some kind of notoriety. There should be laws and strict regulations on fertility clinics. Putting all those embryos in at once- that shows lack of care and concern by the doctor to the mother and the future children.
Yeah, spiteful as it may be, I hope she does not get free stuff from those companies.0 -
First of all, I'm against in vitro fertilization. I believe that if your body is not capable of reproducing, then you should not reproduce. Instead, adopt a child. One of the many that are in the foster system.
The second part of this story that bothers me is that this mother is unemployed, right? So we, the taxpayers, are paying for her 14 children to be born and probably live off the system until who-knows-when-possibly-forever. I'm sure it was taxpayer money that paid for the frickin in-vitro to begin with! :evil:I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0 -

you're gonna love this mary...it's worse...she got in some "accident" at work and got $167,000 in disability re: social security....this babe is priceless

Records obtained by ABC News from the California Department of Industrial Relations show that Nadya Suleman, 33, injured her lower back during what was described as a "riot" at the Metropolitan State Hospital, a mental hospital in Norwalk, Calif., where she worked from 1997 until Nov. 2008.
While Suleman attempted to restrain a patient, another patient knocked a wooden desk onto her back, the records say. She said her injuries were exacerbated by a 2001 auto accident and by her pregnancy.
She received disability payments until at least August 2008. Her employer stopped her payments in July 2001 -- but she appealed to a workers' compensation appeals board, which ruled in 2002 that she was, in fact, temporarily disabled, and the payments resumed.
Suleman became depressed as a result of the injury and was prescribed anti-depressants, the records say.0 -
What I don't understand is this...
Why implant 6 eggs.. if there have been 6 successful births in her past? Why not just implant one... see if it works. If it doesn't plant... plant one more and see if that takes. Repeat until successful.
I mean, her fucking utereus has proven to be as fertile as the fucking Nile Valley... why implant 6 eggs?
...
I can understand the Workmen's Comp thing... up to the point where you want to get pregnant. I'm guessing pregnancy and a bad back is a pretty shitty mix. But, she was injured on the job... a job where a fucking riot broke out. So, I can see her claim, there... since riots don't break out in my office.
And I don't even mind paying for those kids... they didn't have a choice in this matter. Thety can't help it it if mom is a fucking nutcase. I just don't want to see this shit rewarded with a bullshit 'Reality T.V.' deal. It'll just convince the next shithead mom that it could be her big break.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

i agree. The question i have is where does the blame lie; with the networks that reward this behavior, the mothers (and fathers) for taking advantage of it, or our fucked up culture for our seemingly insatiable appetite for this type of programming? Let's face it, the networks probably wouldn't keep pumping this shit out if the ratings weren't so damned high."When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0 -

this is exactly how i feel. just b/c you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD...and i absolutely think some limits should be put on this procedure. i think it is uttery ridiculous that people are having litters of children, and it in no way is 'god's will' or any such nonsense, b/c if it was god's will, it would happen w/o the intervention of science and medicine. i truly believe the stringent procedures for adoptions should hold true for in vitro....and seriously, a single mom willingly choosing to have 8 more babies...and the medical profession helping her to do so?! that is.....seriously fucked imo.Stay with me...
Let's just breathe...
I am myself like you somehow0 -
I don't want a penny of my taxes (and I live in California) to go to this stupid nutjob. I feel sorry for the children, but I wish they could be taken away from her so they at least have some chance of a normal life. I realize that isn't realistic, but it makes me sick to think of her profiting this way - those poor poor children. Shame on NBC, shame on anyone who slaps this woman on the cover of their magazine.
And as the mother of an adopted child - wow, the stuff we went through to adopt.
One more thing. (Hey, I'm ranting.) Somebody told me she's had a lot of plastic surgery. How did she pay for that? Food stamps and she has plastic surgery? This same person told me on the Today Show today she'd obviously just had her nails done.
OMG, I need Rachel Maddow to talk me down.0 -
I'm not surprised she's had plastic surgery. She has that creeper-fake-face look.I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0

I've been really worked up about this story ever since the facts started to come to light. And they keep coming.
She was on food stamps but "doesn't consider" them to be welfare or help from the government.
THREE of her first six children apparently have disabilities themselves and she has been recieving payments for them. As we all know, special needs kids (especially with autism as they're rumored to be) need 100% attention. They couldn't have been getting it before, and there's no way they'll see any now.
She's clearly mentally ill and a fraud and these children need to be taken away from her, because her situation is a danger to them. She's so delusional she pretends like the world's only pissed because she's single. I've heard a lot of people saying, "Let her find out how hard it is to raise kids without help!" but I don't agree with that at all, because then the children suffer when she is inevitably a horrible and neglectful provider. The only possible good end to this is taking them away and continuing to take away any children she manages to implant in her body. Failing action by Social Services, I do hope she gets corporate help, because the children are going to need all the help they can get.
And let's throw the doctor in the ocean who thought it was a good idea to put 6 embryos into a woman.
And she wants to be a counselor, everyone. A counselor.
Oh, and I completely agree that fertilization treatments need to be under the same amount of scrutiny as adoption. I am not against fertility treatments, though, because they do help real deserving couples conceive.I'll wait for an angel, but won't hold my breath0 -

Why even implant one? She had 6 kids already for christ's sake! What kind of doctor would even consider IVF in her case?0 -
No wonder why California is in trouble, she is getting almost $500 a month in food stamps. What a screwed up state.0

For a single mother with six kids, 500 dollars doesn't go very far. Thats less than 100 a month for each child to eat with. On the surface, i don't have a real problem with this. That being said, she definitely should not have had more children and i agree that IVF in her case is completely unethical. Should never have happened. Especially to the scope it did. But those six kids she already had need to eat. It isn't their fault and this IS the US."When all your friends and sedatives mean well but make it worse... better find yourself a place to level out."0
