Mocking him for being a "goaltender" (:p) would be like mocking Buddy Rich for being a drummer.
when they make a beautiful save, everyone loves the goaltender.0 -

So, I'm jumping into this conversation a bit late.
Any tips on following the Premier League from the US? (I live in Houston, TX).
I'm going for ManU, my husband is going for Arsenal, and his best friend is going for Chelsea. Should be a lot of fun watching the games!0 -

there are a few websites out there where you can watch the games on a webcast.
also the BBC website will have highlights online after each weekends games.
your choice of teams is interesting.. i say interesting, but i meant gloryhuntingoh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -

it depends, unfortunatly most of what I get to watch is ass crap MLS.
I love most of the European leagues. I've tried to become an Arsenal fan but not really I just like Cesc Fabregas game for the most part.
I'm always up for most good world matches. I'll watch most European and South American teams, especially Brazil and Argentina as an American I have to hate Mexico but I love watching those matches too though we can't really compete on the world stage with the vast majority of our best athletes in other sports. Ask yourself this, if you had to watch mostly MLS soccer would you like it as much? I think not. Dribble dribble dribble bad pass fall over the ball miss wide. That's MLS soccer 89% of the time. It's D level football if you will. Give me good crisp quick pace and cut down on the ridiculous lame diving and over use of pain expressions and I'm invested for 90+ minutes. They don't have to score 5 goals, but I like to see a lot of shots on goal and good chances. I can appreciate good defense too but it gets old after a while. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -
Laughing at some of the comments from some of our British friends. I thought I knew a lot of the slang but maybe it would help if we had a section in the FAQ for British terms. You guys know all of our slang from the Rush Hour movies.
BTW, Fullham is my team even if it is no longer the "American Team".0 -

I picked ManU for Ronaldo. If he leaves to Real, well... I'll actually shop around and find which team I like best. You gotta understand, we're just starting to get into this (after watching the whole UEFA 2008).
My husband picked Arsenal because he really liked Van Persie.
Anyway, what i'm trying to say is that, maybe after actually following one season of football, things might change. but we gotta start somewhere!0 -
qtegirl wrote:Yeah, maybe you're right... but... There were specific reasons for us picking those teams, please don't jump to conclusions!

i understand... thats why i did aat you as i know the main reason you support those teams is due to their fame, as well as having star players.
as long as more people are getting into soccer then i'm not bothered... its all good!!
i'm stuck with being a Notts Forest supporter
(although i'm following and rooting for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League )oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.0 -
Rangers fans are born, not manufactured. That's where real passion comes from. We're more than a club. You're meant to support your local team. Go to the games and support them. Not the team with the most money or biggest stars. Although you can do what you please
but maybe that's why people don't get "soccer"

Any Toon fans on here??
Not too proud of us at the moment, the thug thst is Barton should have been sacked without a thought. Not sure I'll be going to any games while he's still there.
Really needed to strengthen the squad in the closed season, I'm disapointed :( . Wish we'd signed Aimar.http://www.wishlistfoundation.org
