So, I'm jumping into this conversation a bit late.
Any tips on following the Premier League from the US? (I live in Houston, TX).
I'm going for ManU, my husband is going for Arsenal, and his best friend is going for Chelsea. Should be a lot of fun watching the games!
there are a few websites out there where you can watch the games on a webcast.
also the BBC website will have highlights online after each weekends games.
your choice of teams is interesting.. i say interesting, but i meant gloryhunting
oh scary... 40000 morbidly obese christians wearing fanny packs invading europe is probably the least scariest thing since I watched an edited version of The Care Bears movie in an extremely brightly lit cinema.

That'll be tough. Americans only support the Big 4 anyways really. Although no one picked Liverpool. Maybe because they haven't won the league in forever.
it depends, unfortunatly most of what I get to watch is ass crap MLS.
I love most of the European leagues. I've tried to become an Arsenal fan but not really I just like Cesc Fabregas game for the most part.
I'm always up for most good world matches. I'll watch most European and South American teams, especially Brazil and Argentina as an American I have to hate Mexico but I love watching those matches too though we can't really compete on the world stage with the vast majority of our best athletes in other sports. Ask yourself this, if you had to watch mostly MLS soccer would you like it as much? I think not. Dribble dribble dribble bad pass fall over the ball miss wide. That's MLS soccer 89% of the time. It's D level football if you will. Give me good crisp quick pace and cut down on the ridiculous lame diving and over use of pain expressions and I'm invested for 90+ minutes. They don't have to score 5 goals, but I like to see a lot of shots on goal and good chances. I can appreciate good defense too but it gets old after a while.
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.
Laughing at some of the comments from some of our British friends. I thought I knew a lot of the slang but maybe it would help if we had a section in the FAQ for British terms. You guys know all of our slang from the Rush Hour movies.
BTW, Fullham is my team even if it is no longer the "American Team".

Yeah, maybe you're right... but... There were specific reasons for us picking those teams, please don't jump to conclusions!
I picked ManU for Ronaldo. If he leaves to Real, well... I'll actually shop around and find which team I like best. You gotta understand, we're just starting to get into this (after watching the whole UEFA 2008).
My husband picked Arsenal because he really liked Van Persie.
Anyway, what i'm trying to say is that, maybe after actually following one season of football, things might change. but we gotta start somewhere!

i understand... thats why i did a at you as i know the main reason you support those teams is due to their fame, as well as having star players.
as long as more people are getting into soccer then i'm not bothered... its all good!!
i'm stuck with being a Notts Forest supporter
(although i'm following and rooting for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League )

Rangers fans are born, not manufactured. That's where real passion comes from. We're more than a club. You're meant to support your local team. Go to the games and support them. Not the team with the most money or biggest stars. Although you can do what you please but maybe that's why people don't get "soccer"
last night i dreamt that me & cesc fabregas got samir nasri really fuckin drunk & he passed out on the side of road. so we were trying to get him on a bus when some fat slag started to jump cesc. meanwhile nasri is spewing on my shoes
Not too proud of us at the moment, the thug thst is Barton should have been sacked without a thought. Not sure I'll be going to any games while he's still there.
Really needed to strengthen the squad in the closed season, I'm disapointed :( . Wish we'd signed Aimar.
Toon Army fans here!!!! Poor Newcastle - I thought they might be on their way to relegation last year. Hopefully this season will be more promising.
Also, used to live in Frisco, TX about 2 miles from Pizza Hut Park where FC Dallas plays. Boy, what a find they had in Juan Toja - but of course they can't hang on to him. Last I heard he was off to some team in Romania so that he could get European exposure and and chance to play in Champions League and UEFA Cup. At least the MLS is "trying" to improve its product.

maybe i have a cesc man crush
lol
Beavis : Is this Pearl Jam?
Butt-head: This guy makes faces like Eddie Vedder.
Beavis: No, Eddie Vedder makes faces like this guy.
Butt-head: I heard these guys, like, came first and Pearl Jam ripped them off.
Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.
Butt-head: Well, they both suck.
Seriously, that is so not true. Talk about the wrong man for the job!! We haven't had the right man since Bobbie.
Sam took BOLTON to Europe twice. All since newcastle have been. Quit being impatient, actually rebuild, learn how to scout, and quit talking about beautiful football. All of those unreal expectations costs Newcastle any chance.
Things will not improve without better management, better coaching, better scouting, and the geordie supporters gaining an ounce of sense.
So Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at ManU for at least another season. Who else is glad this matter is over? I'm so sick of hearing of this. Let the season start!

Praise the lord that that annoying little kid is at last going to shut up for a while and give our ears a rest. Personally, I think hes made ManU look pretty bad. Wheres the whole "player never bigger than the club" philosophy gone?!

How to be happy and true is the quest we're taking on together.
Take it on, on, on, on, on.
Take it on, on, on, on, on.

Still gotta wait for the Gareth Barry thing to end.
True, must be two of the toughest teams to support in england. 2 great clubs but not where we belong. we'll both be back to the big time soon though!
I hear people saying calderwood has bought well this summer, you hoping for survival or more?
With the amount of play-off scraps etc we've had the last few seasons I would be happy with a nice uneventful season ... no relegation battle stress would be great
Presume you're hoping to bounce straight back ...
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

For Manchester United go to the link below. maybe someone on there is from your area and can help you out. Heads up - never call our team by the words ManU. It's a bit long of a story but if you can read up on that.
United's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded all our Munich dead,
Before their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their heart's blood dyed it's ev'ry fold.
Then raise United's banner high,
Beneath it's shade we'll live and die,
So keep the faith and never fear,
We'll keep the Red Flag flying here.
We'll never die, we'll never die,
We'll never die, we'll never die,
We'll keep the Red flag flying high,
'Cos Man United will never die
