I would like to talk to you people on here about being poor.
Have you ever opened your cupboard doors to find maybe some rice or maybe nothing at all?
Have you ever waited in line at a soup kitchen or a food bank to get food in your gut?
Have you ever lived in goverment housing?
Have you ever sold drugs or done an illegal activity to put food on the table?
Have you ever went to bed hungry and cold?
Have you ever wore holes in your shoes only to not have them replaced with new ones for quite some time, only to be left walking in the rain or snow?
Have you ever shared your last dollar with someone who is just as poor as you are?
I am just curious.
I have done all the above and still am to some degree.
School has me pretty damn poor these days.
Sure I could quit school, jump back in a truck and make fundage
but my heart just isn't seeing things that way these days.
I hope to land some sort of part-time gig at the school
doing a work study job but that is a few weeks away.
I have been through just about everything, not all things, but many things.
And I'll tell you what, I am hungry and I don't mean for food
Not one single person has ever helped me do a fucking thing.
I been kicked down by myself and by others.
I want to be successful enough so I can help others who seriously
deserve some sort of a chance at grasping a decent life for themselves, for their family if they have one or want one.
In closing I'll add this:
Why would someone poke fun at someone
for not having the extra money to buy a bag of charcoal for a bbq
even when they know the individuals case?
That was my neighbor poking fun at me for using firewood
in my firepit rather than charcoal....to you dude i say suck a dick
you piece of shit...

I am poor but not that poor. If things do not get better for me soon though, I might be able to relate to that more. I am lucky enough to have great family and friends. Since finishing college though, things have been far from great for me.......I am having a really difficult time right now.Alpine Valley 2000

unfortunately in this soceity the vast majority of people all too quickly judge others only as to how much $ they make and the material things that they have or buy. and it makes them feel superior to put people down if don't they don't possess those same things that they themselves take for granted. even if the circumstances of the person that their tearing down has them on a vastly different playing field. the whole bunch of folks that think "I make plenty of $, i have lots of stuff and i've never known what it's like to be poor or be hungry and this make me a better person than those who are." are usually the most miserable people
the way i see it what makes a person successful isn't how much money they make or in what stuff that they own. but in what time, effort, kindness and compassion that person is willing to extend to others, even if it's just something as simple as a smile.
i've met some people that are poor and have very little that i think of as being successful. and some people that have lots of money and own alot of things that are failures
so i may be poor and not have money...but that doesn't mean that i'll ever be one of the people that sells my soul in order to get it. i'm not saying that everyone that has money had to sell their soul to get it either...i'm just saying*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I have done some of those things, but not all. If poor means wondering where your next meal is coming from or going to bed rather than turn the heating on, then yes, I've been poor.A human being that was given to fly.

Advice: Apply for a student grant. They do not have to be paid back. The amount you recieve is based upon your parent's income. If you are denied... it means your parent's make too much money to qualify. If that's the case... hit up Mom and Dad.

Then, by all means... hit up the grants. It's also a good incentive for keeping up your G.P.A. Drop below a set G.P.A. and the money goes away.
...
Also, by 'firepit'... are you talking about for heat (fireplace) or cooking (like a barbeque)? If for heat, be careful. Carbon Monoxide is not something you want any part of.

The key to the BBQ is having a good bed of coals. I cooked some steaks this weekend in a fire pit, and I'm by no means poor. But there are several keys to a good pit BBQ
1) Use a hardwood. Avoid pines.
2) Make sure the firewood is dry and seasoned.
3) Get a good bed of coals and embers for consistent heat.
4) Occasionally rake or stir the coals to make sure you have consistent heat.
5) Avoid fire and flare-ups or you will burn your food.
Follow these tips and no one is allowed to make fun of you. If they do, you can call their bluff, school them in the art of grilling, and send them running back to their cellar to question their manhood!Be Excellent To Each OtherParty On, Dudes!0 -

I would tend to think that being "poor" is realitive. No one in the U.S. is really poor. Think about it. How many TV's do you have? How many cars do you have? How many days have you gone without food? If you have the money to buy cigarettes and/or alcohol you aren't "poor"."If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room."

Well, okay. My initial thought was that you were dirt poor. I figured, if you don't have money for food... you don't have money to pay for heat. A lot of poor people drag the Hibatchi indoors for heat and pay the consequences for it.
...
As for your neighbor... ask him, "Other than complete idiots... who sits around a campfire of glowing charcoal brickets?" Firepits are pits for fire... thus, the wood.

you're quite wrong my friend
i could take you to some very poor parts
of this country
sure alot of ppl in the u.s. have money
their are a tons of extremely poor ppl in this fucking country
obviously, and i don't wanna use this word but i am going to
obviously you have not been everywhere or anywhere for that matter
old ppl eating cat and dog food is not poor?
children eating out of trash cans as the family
lives in a broken down car isn't poor?
some ppl have never had a tv
some folks would be thrilled to have a can of span
and you don't think that's poor?
sure it's not the slum of sum city in india or thiland
and it sure isn't ethiopia, africa
the u.s. is riddled with poor, unhealthy ppl.
