I'm living in Indiana right now. I spent 8 years getting my culture in Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, and San Diego, but I traded it all in to return to the flatlands and the bad weather. I'm not sure what I was thinking (oh yeah . . . I couldn't afford to buy any land within a 3 hour drive of a city).

How can you afford a computer with internet access?

Why are you in school if you're 36?

Are you on welfare? Food Stamps?

    Just keep a thick skin.

The wise and thrifty are NEVER poor.

Stay in school, keep your head up. You'll get there.

(and then wind up as that guys boss)
My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.

I would like to talk to you people on here about being poor.

Have you ever opened your cupboard doors to find maybe some rice or maybe nothing at all?
Have you ever waited in line at a soup kitchen or a food bank to get food in your gut?
Have you ever lived in goverment housing?
Have you ever sold drugs or done an illegal activity to put food on the table?
Have you ever went to bed hungry and cold?
Have you ever wore holes in your shoes only to not have them replaced with new ones for quite some time, only to be left walking in the rain or snow?
Have you ever shared your last dollar with someone who is just as poor as you are?

    I am just curious.
I have done all the above and still am to some degree.
School has me pretty damn poor these days.
Sure I could quit school, jump back in a truck and make fundage
but my heart just isn't seeing things that way these days.
I hope to land some sort of part-time gig at the school
doing a work study job but that is a few weeks away.

I have been through just about everything, not all things, but many things.
And I'll tell you what, I am hungry and I don't mean for food

Not one single person has ever helped me do a fucking thing.
I been kicked down by myself and by others.

I want to be successful enough so I can help others who seriously
deserve some sort of a chance at grasping a decent life for themselves, for their family if they have one or want one.

    In closing I'll add this:

Why would someone poke fun at someone
for not having the extra money to buy a bag of charcoal for a bbq
even when they know the individuals case?

That was my neighbor poking fun at me for using firewood
in my firepit rather than charcoal....to you dude i say suck a dick
    you piece of shit...

Why do you care about your neighbor making fun?

He is your neighbor! If you don't have money he probably doesn't either.

I would tend to think that being "poor" is realitive. No one in the U.S. is really poor. Think about it. How many TV's do you have? How many cars do you have? How many days have you gone without food? If you have the money to buy cigarettes and/or alcohol you aren't "poor".
but there are people in the US without tv's, without cars, without shelter, without food...

There's also a lot of poor people with those things even though they can't afford them.....(Excluding food)

yea well that too. some people seem to be able to work around things like that. but let's not take away from the fact that there are starving people in this country too. people that can't get medical care when they need it. people living on the streets.

    I fully agree....Nobody should starve.

My point is that sometimes people aren't smart with the money they earn.

I'm not a rich guy, but I never run out of money. I'm very frugal. However, I have friends that make comparable wages and are always broke!

Now....A single parent trying to raise two kids while working two jobs deserves all the help and sympathy in the world.

Not sure I'm buying a single 36 year old man not being able to feed himself.....

Hey man, keep up the good fight and maybe someday down the road you can help make someones life a bit easier....even if just for one day.

Good luck to you and fuck your neighbor.

The people who arent smart with their money are stuggling. The people who dont have money to not be smart with are poor.

    Don't answer the questions....

My investigation skills tell me that you haven't explored the options available to you.

You would rather take the high road and bitch about how poor you are on the internet.

There are plenty of people who make due with a lot less than any American has!

More than half my life my friend. Just accept that some people are ignorant and mean and have no understanding of the pains others go through. What got me though it all is knowing others had it worse off than me and so I never complained and helped others whenever I could and did all I could to improve my life.

You don't have to listen to me...

My point is that I know a lot "profesional victims" in my life. They all have the same "poor me" attitude that you seem to have. They never improve themselves. They only look to others to pity them.

I don't know you from anyone else on the street.

What I do know is that telling other people how "fucked up" your life is will get you nowhere with most people.

Asking for help and constructive ways to improve yourself is a better option. Make it known that you will do whatever it takes to get to where you want to go! Nobody likes a crybaby.

I'm glad you're in school trying to improve yourself! Good luck!

Interestingly, if you had a large kiln, you could make your own char coal out of that firewood. You have to burn it very slowly on low heat for several days to purify the fuel in the wood. What is left is charcoal and will burn hotter and slower.

Sorry your a-hole neighbor is such a....well, a-hole.

Here's to hoping that school pays off, and you can make lots of money--and then give it away. :)

    Take care,
I still want you all to "take care"--I am just damn tired of typing it.
