dude, you SHOULD just as happy to be single as otherwise. what really is the difference when it comes down to it?

But I do like the term singles awareness day, because we are one of the last discriminated against groups in this country.

Don't sweat it Pix. It's better than having the stress of knowing you have to get a great gift for someone because your leaving that day because you booked your trip for the Daytona 500 2 months before you even met them and you still fell bad.

That was a nice run on sentence.

and, it IS just one day! i bet you'll get lots of LOVE and adorable cards/gifts made for you by your kids, so that's something! as to the *rest*....you'll find a new love again some day, b/c people like you with so much love to give and open hearts and minds...always do.

btw - valentine's day is said to be invented by a woman, during victorian times, who sent the first valentine's day card.

Thanks D2D, I posted this thread with a smile on my face. I truly think it's funny to see the reverse side of Valentines Day.

I don't mind being single on Valentine's. If it falls on a weekend I usually go to a party or something.

Last year, I was in a relationship, and I sat home alone on Valentines day (good thing Lost was on lol) :mad:

This year, I will again sit home and watching Lost. But at least I won't be angry at anyone and can focus on drooling over Sawyer on Lost.

it's a pretty stupid idea to think we need a special day to extol romance in this country anyway, since it always is every day...there SHOULD be a singles day instead. I would support that no matter what my personal relationship status was at the time.

That's a stay at home, make dinner, drink wine, light candles, listen to good music and eat chocolate kind of night....whether you're single or not.

Not sure yet. I don't like doing the whole flowers thing. I think it's played out and lame. I'm going to try and do something different, I just don't know what that might be. Maybe take her to her favorite store and just let her pick out what ever she wants. I don't know.

She was cool with the whole race thing, she's a good egg.

I agree w/everything said, it is a hallmark holiday! Designed to sell more cards, flowers and candy. But I love flowers and candy

I thought it was silly even when I was not single. You should not need a special holiday to tell someone you love them!

valentines day is one of the BEST days of the year to be single... there are singles nights EVERYWHERE... and it's pretty much a meat market out there. So yep, it's not just for couples... if you go to a restaurant or to the cinema on your own or with friends valentines night you may be confused into thinking it is... but if you go to the pub... you can be sure EVERY guy you meet is single

so go for it.

This will be my first ever valentines day NOT being single... so trust me... I know this stuff

A lot of places even organise speed dating and stuff like that for valentines night... cos pubs and clubs won't really attract couples so they need to do something to get fill up. It is actually a BRILLIANT night to be single... MUCH better than sitting in feeling sorry for yourself
