dude, you SHOULD just as happy to be single as otherwise. what really is the difference when it comes down to it?

But I do like the term singles awareness day, because we are one of the last discriminated against groups in this country.

Don't sweat it Pix. It's better than having the stress of knowing you have to get a great gift for someone because your leaving that day because you booked your trip for the Daytona 500 2 months before you even met them and you still fell bad.

btw - valentine's day is said to be invented by a woman, during victorian times, who sent the first valentine's day card. not hallmark.

Thanks D2D, I posted this thread with a smile on my face. I truly think it's funny to see the reverse side of Valentines Day.

I don't mind being single on Valentine's. If it falls on a weekend I usually go to a party or something.

Last year, I was in a relationship, and I sat home alone on Valentines day (good thing Lost was on lol) :mad:

This year, I will again sit home and watching Lost. But at least I won't be angry at anyone and can focus on drooling over Sawyer on Lost.

it's a pretty stupid idea to think we need a special day to extol romance in this country anyway, since it always is every day...there SHOULD be a singles day instead. I would support that no matter what my personal relationship status was at the time.

That's a stay at home, make dinner, drink wine, light candles, listen to good music and eat chocolate kind of night....whether you're single or not.

Not sure yet. I don't like doing the whole flowers thing. I think it's played out and lame. I'm going to try and do something different, I just don't know what that might be. Maybe take her to her favorite store and just let her pick out what ever she wants. I don't know.

She was cool with the whole race thing, she's a good egg.

I agree w/everything said, it is a hallmark holiday! Designed to sell more cards, flowers and candy. But I love flowers and candy I thought it was silly even when I was not single. You should not need a special holiday to tell someone you love them!

valentines day is one of the BEST days of the year to be single... there are singles nights EVERYWHERE... and it's pretty much a meat market out there. So yep, it's not just for couples... if you go to a restaurant or to the cinema on your own or with friends valentines night you may be confused into thinking it is... but if you go to the pub... you can be sure EVERY guy you meet is single so go for it.

lol, maybe in 2 years when it's on a weekend I'll check out the pub . That's a pretty good logic.

This will be my first ever valentines day NOT being single... so trust me... I know this stuff

A lot of places even organise speed dating and stuff like that for valentines night... cos pubs and clubs won't really attract couples so they need to do something to get fill up. It is actually a BRILLIANT night to be single... MUCH better than sitting in feeling sorry for yourself

It's foolproof though... any other night of the week you can't be sure if the guy you meet is single or not... but valentines night or over valentines weekend, the majority of guys in a relationship is gonna be with their SO so you're pretty sure that at least MOST of the guys are single and there for the taking

Just another reason to get someone a gift. Between Christmas and a January birthday, my boyfriend makes out. I'm not getting him anything. I am already getting him a PSP for his birthday, that is quite enough.

Last year, he did bring a boquet of purple flowers to my job. Now that is sweet!

There doesn't have to be something wrong with ya because you've no interest in men right now. God I've gone for a couple of years with no interest in men... and it never felt like there was something wrong with me. I used that time to get to know myself a bit better... and it was probably one of the most important phases of my life.

yeah I mean on a practical level it's because I have too much other stuff to do like get back in shape and deal with my disaster of a financial situation. on another level, I just don't feel attraction anymore, and that's where it's probably more of a medical thing. I'm pretty sure it's because I've been on the pill for 8 years straight- there was one month about 2 years ago when I didn't take it and I wanted every guy I saw. other than that, I've been like "eh." Which, I have to say was a bit of a problem during the 9 months I had a boyfriend.

I can't help but wonder if the pill could be the cause of alot of your problems? Cos alot of them seem to be a problem with embracing your femininity... and I don't think that's much to do with how you look. But the pill CAN completely fuck you up hormonally.
