If it is out of warranty you pay $99 for another year and a box that works, including shipping both ways... you pay some guy to fix it, you erase any chance of getting it fixed by Microsoft, EVER, and run the risk of him bricking your console... not even worth considering.

well, what i did when mine broke was sell it because i just wasn't going to go refurb, and i got $210 for a broken box. every single person that i know who has bought a 360 has had to send it in to get fixed. about half of those people had their replacement box break within a few months.

isn't it about time this stops?

I'm on my launch system still... it has been acting up and that's why I know about the repair process now.

Good luck getting $200 for a broken box these days... lucky if you get $100

i just sold my box 2 months ago.

i couldn't believe the guy offered me that much....that's another reason i had to get rid of it.

I had the 3 flashing red lights, called Microsoft who told me it would take 6 weeks for them to do whatever they needed to do, they shipped me a box to send my X Box to them, they sent me a brand new X Box that I recieved in less than 2 weeks. This was about a month ago. It was about as painless of a process there is that involves having to send something away for repair.

How do you know it was new and not a refurb? 90% of the people i know with 360s have to send them in and 90% of them say it is a bullshit process. Most of them get refurbs back.

They sent a letter back with it saying (paraphrasing) "To get you back to enjoying your X Box sooner we sent you a brand new one" If they meant just brand new to me I don't know, but the new one seems to work fine. I don't know how you know its a refurb, but I was pleasantly suprised at how easy the process was of getting a replacement.
