He doesn't play for the Flyers, how can this be good news?

This is huge news. The Devils haven't been without Brodeur for an extended period of time for his entire career, right?

Slowly getting into the hockey season... Still coming down from the Phils.

    Go Flyers!!!

We like to watch the Devils writhe in pain. :)
Plus, if the Devils start to tank, it's only good for the rest of the division. This may be a good day.

Well, what do folks think of the Eminger/Downie trade for Matt Carle?

Overall, I like it, though it still pisses me off we gave up a first round pick for Eminger in the first place. Eminger started to come around the last couple games, but we didn't really need another 3rd pairing D-man. As for Downie, I've held out hope, but I think he was always on Stevens' shitlist and not gonna get the shot he needed. I hope things work out for him.

Carle has more upside than Eminger, for sure. he can play 18-20 minutes in second pairing role. I understand he's slumped a bit in his second+ year, but the poor guy was the second most experienced guy on an atrocious defensive team in TB. I wonder who they pair him with. Vaananen? That means Sbisa has to play with Alberts, unless they get smart and bring up Guenin finally. I actually think Sbisa will help stabilize Mr. Giveaway Alberts. Sbisa can recover quickly and make up for some of the bonehead stuff.

I have little opinion on Shanahan rumours. No, that's not true. If they can get him at a bargain price, I say go for it. He'll provide 20 or so goals and help in the room. I love the kids, but it's becoming apparent that they still have some room to grow in the off-ice leadership department.

I'm missing the game tonight to go get piss drunk. Hope Briere gives us a little jump too. we should crush the Lightning.

    Go Flyers!

I watched Carle in college and a good bit in San Jose. He won the Hobey Baker and then jumped almost immediately into the playoffs with the Sharks. ANd looked damn good. Slowed down last season a bit.

As for today, I'm now missing my third game of the season because puck drop is 2pm and I have to work on this holiday. Grrrr.

I think Eminger was miscast once Parent and Jones went down... he would have been a nice stay at home guy with either one of those D-men but when asked to carry the load and the puck, he was out of his element. That said, we'll see what happens with Carle, looks to have potential but it still hurts to give up a 1st for Eminger only to trade him away a month into the season...

I was impressed with Carle tonight too. he was everywhere.
As well as they played, I was a little bored. Stifling a team through the neutral zone sure wins games, but it's dull as dirt to watch.
It'll be interesting to see fin they come to play again against Atlanta. Last time we beat them event though we sucked. Since then, ATL's gone on something of a tear. I do believe Niitty's in Lehtonen's head though.
EDIT: Hedberg's going for the Thrash today.

When? And who fits where at this point? Obviously, Kukkonen goes. I say kick Alberts down to the Phantoms. I really like the new Coburn-Carle pairing. And they can't send Sbisa down, not that I think they should.

We're only 2 points out of 8th, with a game in hand on NJ. Could be worse - sure feels like it is.

looks like they found their pace.. although the defensive zone turnovers are still too high but with Parent and Jones coming back soon, hopefully they will decrease. And the special teams have been special this season.. hope they continue that way.

I've always rooted for Downie and think he has the talent to be a second line guy. Watching him at World Jrs a couple years, I'd never seen anybody, at any level, with that kind of ability to play along the boards. But i think we made the right move to dump him. Don't know if he'll ever get it. I mean, he's been pulling stupid shit since his first year in junior. And his play on the ice is wildly inconsistent. It's kinda sad.

I thought I sent that text to my brother this morning. Hmmm.
  • chromiamchromiam Posts: 4,114
I think the biggest difference in Carter is that he trusts that lightning quick release now and will fire from anywhere and hit the net. Before he would try to make the extra move or get some more space or wildly miss the target but now he trusts that even if the D-man is right on him, he can fire that shot and get it on net.
