Stone Is God wrote:I can't stand shaving my face. I have an important meeting this afternoon so I HAD to clean myself up. Then you get the questions from the office ladies, "How come you don't shave more often?" I'd like to reply, "You don't shave your legs everyday, do you?" but I think that now falls under the umbrella of harassment.
If I could, I'd plunk down the money to do laser hair removal on my face.
Can't stand it at all.
eek, actually a lot of people shave their legs everyday, unfortunately (I know this because I am of italian decent...:))
personally, I haven't shaved for weeks, hmm maybe a month. It's winter, I love it!

i never doubted that. definitely had the sarcastic tone of being tongue-in-cheek.
however, i also knew you had another thread the other day, kinda sad/resigned.....thus why i added more in response, that's all.
you most definitely seem to be enjoying your life....especially in dusseldorf!and that's the way to be.....single or not! happy with yourself and with your life!

If I didn't shave my face for weeks I'd end up looking like Tom Hanks in Castaway or Jack Bauer when he was returned from China at the start of the last season of 24.I'll ride the wave where it takes me.0 -

Ms. Haiku wrote:Valentines Day is special for me. It's great to be alive on that day! Heart heart heart I love the heart!
Some people have anniversaries when they stoped drinking, or when they got their divorce, or even when they got married. Mine's an anniversary of a happy heart (takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' 33 years anniversary). As I'm celebrating the heart, so is everyone else hahahahahahahahahahahaha wonderful coincidence!
It's a great day.
The day is all about me . . .
unless a B-Rob lookalike would come along . . .
but until then it's all about me
this is beautiful!
honestly, i never understood all the negativ energy directed at valentine's day. i have always loved it, even as a child. i was brought up to believe it's a holiday about LOVE. not any one particular kind of love....just love. single, dating, cohabitating, married, familial, friendship, whatever....there is PLENTY of love out there....and that's what it's all about!
i STILL send my mother a card for valentine's day EVERY year.
i think like most things, it's one attitudes towards it that makes the difference. if you're not interested, easy enough to ignore.....and if you like it, enjoy it....in whatever state of singleness/relationship you're in!Stay with me...

Totally. I just an image running through my head of Snuffy in the shower with a can of shaving cream and a razor trying to keep balance to get that tough to reach spot.I'll ride the wave where it takes me.0 -

really? I always learned the complete opposite of valentines day as a kid. in school they always talked about st. valentine who was like the patron st of couples or something, and my parents never did anything for it...sometimes I remember my dad sending my mum flowers or something...but I remember once a girl in my class got a "valentines day gift" from her parents and I asked my mum why I didn't get any gifts and she said it was because it was a holiday for grown ups who are in love, and that it's not a real holiday anyway.0 -

nfanel wrote:i agree. as someone often single on valentine's day...never bothers me. i get cards for my nieces/nephews. my dad always got me candy and a card. even the years i'm in a relationship....not really different than other days.

exactly.
if you are happy with your life and your current relationship status....who cares what else is going on? i don't understand why some people seem to get 'upset' over whatever is going on outside of their own life, not their relationships, etc. obviously, world events are a whole other matter.....but really, who cares what other people do? i don't get the mentality of feeling 'left out' if it's not something you care about? if one thinks VD is a load of shite....well then, i'd think easy enough to ignore. tis like me and the superbowl. hell, there are plenty of holidays, BIG holidays, that i don't celebrate......all the jewish and muslim holidays for example, and i don't feel 'left out' simply b/c it's not my religion. and people who say VD or christmas etc get rammed down their throats....how so? commericals? is that it? so yea....again.....who cares? life is what you make it, and that includes holidays...observing or not......it's a choice.
i already bought my VD cards for hubby and mom.beyond that.......dinner out, wine, candles......pretty much our typical saturday night just on a thursday. we're off the week of VD, so THAT will be nice. not doing *gifts* although sometimes we do, so beyond exchanging cards.....just a nice night. that can and does happen whenever you want, eh?
oh and i got cards and gifts from my parents every VD day....some friends exchanged cards in school, etc. hell, when i taught, i'd get little valentines from many of my students.so again, guess it all depends on how you were raised, what thoughts you had for the holiday...and as an adult, how you choose to view/think of it all.
Stay with me...

Ms. Haiku wrote:Holy shit! Your kid rocks!!!!! Way to go 5 years surgery free! *high-five*
I was in ICU on VD (33 years ago) so that's why it's special to me. I had tetralogy of fallot. 39 years ago doctors didn't operate on newborns for what I had. They usually waited, and possibly did a shunt, but 5 years was when the first surgery was performed.
For those of us that are single let's nominate February 14, 2008 as PJPixie's Son's Day. What do you think?
Wow, I met quite a few kids with TETROLOGY OF FALLOT during my son's last hospital stay for his OPEN HEART SURGERY. SO amazing! My son's Defect is called HYPOPLASTIC LEFT HEART SURGERY and I'm so lucky to have him. 20 years ago, kids born with this defect usually didn't survive.

i was brought up the same way (it's weird realizing now that i guess not everybody had the same perspective on it as a kid). my dad has always gotten me and my sis flowers for valentine's...he's just a sweetheart in general, and my mom and sis and i exchange cards too.
even having a romantic love in my life, i still ignore the mass commercialism (just like i do for xmas), and let the holiday have a personal meaning for me. all in how you choose to deal with it. fuck what society or anybody else says it should be, make it yours!
can't have too much love no matter what day of the year0 -

EXACTLY!
and i really think that's how it should be for all things, b/c honestly...who really CARES how others CHOOSE to live their lives? if it makes you happy, do it. that's my motto. i assume most people are also working towards chasing their own personal happiness, so who am i to say how to go about it? there's no one right way....so just enjoy the ride!
my dad always used to get us little and sometimes not-so-little gifts too.......flowers, candy, jewelry.......bit bittersweet now.
and yes, it is interesting all the different ways people were brought up on it, good or bad......but yes, you still as an adult can choose to see it as you see fit, no one can stop you from seeing anything in a positive or negative light....it's all what YOU want it to be.
i really like ms. haiku's take.....truly beautiful!Stay with me...

As others have said, I was raised to think that Valentine's Day was always just a special day to say "I love you" to everyone that you love...not just your romantic partner. When I was little, my Dad used to give me candy in a heart-shaped box and my mom usually gave me a stuffed animal.
My sister always sent me something, too. And we would all exchange cards.
We'll use it as an excuse to go somewhere nice for dinner...which is a luxury for us these days.0 -

btw - just thinking about it and the first post reminds me of sex and the city: the episode where carrie is asked to be on the cover of a mag, with the title 'single and fabulous'.......and then it ends up to be a horrid pic and 'single and fabulous?' instead....or something like that.
b/c carrie was viewing it as a manifesto of all the great things of being single....and lawd knows there are many!....and it got turned upside down on her.
so yea, there can be shite in the media about being single and seeing it negatively or positively. personally tho, it seems like today is the BEST time for being single and accepted as a valid choice. there are positive and negative portrayals of just about ALL lifestyle choices...depending on what you look at, where you get your info.....and it can flip one way or the other on a daily basis. that's just our fast paced culture and sharing opnions and information. it's what you choose to believe, and more importantly, what you choose for yourslf and if you are happy with your choices. besides, what you want today could change tomorrow......and single or not, relationships change, grow....positivley or negatively....so yea, why worry about other views....yours is the only one that matters for your life.Stay with me...
