We blew a huge opportunity. Beating Hamels at home would have been unbelievable. Just keep it in perspective. If we take game 2, we are in really good shape.

"One minute, the Phillies didn't look like a team that could get a ball airborne with a tennis racket. The next, two stunning home runs were floating through the electrified October night, those rally towels were swirling, and the look on Derek Lowe's face said it all.

Loosely translated, you could describe that look this way: "This park is a joke."

He'd just watched a game-tying, two-run, Chase Utley home run come down in the third row of the right-field lower deck. He'd just watched what turned out to be a game-winning homer by Pat Burrell return to earth in the second row of the left-field lower deck.

And nobody had to get out a site map to explain to Derek Lowe -- or anyone in a Dodgers uniform -- that if they had been playing baseball in L.A. instead of Philadelphia, those mighty blows would not have been home runs on anybody's scorecard."

  • Yeah. Although it is not a "must" win, I think it is almost a must win tonight. Winning game 2 would be enormous. Losing game 2 would really put the pressure on us to win all 3 at home.

It's best 4 out of 7 and not 3 out of 5, FYI although you may know this.

I'm sure he already knew this. I think his point was that if we go down 2-0, we almost *have* to win all 3 at home, because going back to Philly needing to win both games 6 AND 7 would be a huge challenge.

If I was a fan I'd rather be tied 1-1 going home for three then be down 0-2. You know in that case, of 0-2, you have to go back to Philly. Stealing home field would be huge for the Dodgers.

Manny would not have gotten a triple if he had run faster. Don't buy into the Tim McCarver crap. He hates Manny Ramirez. Say what you want about Manny, but he knows he's standing on 2nd if he jogs on that.

I agree with you on this one.. He's 36 years old and is getting paid 20 million...no need to strain himself..his pose admiring his double was straining enough :D

He hates the Sox period. He probably hates Manny because he's an ex-Sox player.

I think most broadcasters are biased against the Dodgers. McCarver is a moron, and not because he dislikes Manny or the Dodgers. He's just a moron.

100% right. Here's a little snippet of his idiocy:

McCarver has been known to make verbal gaffes, particularly with player's names. He has referred to pitcher Tim Wakefield as "Bill Wakefield," (the name of one of his McCarver's minor-league teammates), referred to pitcher Bronson Arroyo as "Brandon Arryer" and also, in 2007, he continued his trend of mispronunciation of Red Sox play name calling Jacoby Ellsbury as "Ellsberry". Several times called Albert Pujols "Luis Pujols." In one game he misidentified New York Mets outfielders Endy Chavez and Cliff Floyd as Eric Chavez and "Chris" Floyd.

McCarver has also called pitcher Nate Robertson "Dave" Robertson; and Curtis Granderson Curtis "Ganderman." He misidentified Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Kenny Rogers as "Steve" Rogers, perhaps a mistaken reference to former MLB player Steve Rogers.

While commentating on the 2006 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, McCarver described a fastball from Brad Penny by saying
“ A 'Mark Wohl-berg' fastball. Catch me if you can! ”

McCarver possibly confused Mark Wahlberg with Leonardo DiCaprio. It was DiCaprio who was the star of the movie Catch Me If You Can, not Wahlberg. It is also possible that McCarver was referencing former Atlanta Braves pitcher Mark Wohlers, who is credited as throwing a pitch at 103 mph.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
