Question....

Let us say you were thinking it's about time to have a child. Let us also say that there are some financial benefits (grant money for education) of having said child. Do you:

A) Have the child (in the future) knowing that you will be able to support it with what you will gain (education) from having said child.

OR

B) Feel guilty and selfish for the rest of your life that you used said child to gain something.

I don't want to get into what it costs to have a child, childcare, etc....I'm taking that all into consideration when I ask this question. My friends and I have been going back and forth with this and no one can answer it.

Um...clearly in this situation, it would be "B".

I'm sure the grant money wouldn't make up for the cost (monetary, time, and other) of having a child.

    People have children because

    A.) they want to

    or

B.) there was a birth control foul-up, decide to keep the baby, and adjust their life (lives) around this occurance.

Your question is quite intriguing though.
I love to turn you on

Why is it sad? Because you don't understand it?

Take a look at our world today. Women and GIRLS have kids for the wrong reasons and yet they don't KNOW what the wrong reasons are. I'm willing to say that my option A could qualify as being a wrong answer, but I'm aware of it.

I love my sister to death, she had a baby and she hasn't worked in over a year, she lives off the system and I hate it. I can't believe she is my sister sometimes. Did she have him so she didn't have to work, probably not, but is she doing it anyway...YEP!

    Please choose "C":

    C) Don't have a child right now.

Well first, you said you were thinking it was "time to have a child". Regardless of all the financial pitfalls of having a child or not,
    1. Do you want a baby? Are you in a stable place to be able to provide the child with nurturing?
    2. Do you enjoy children? Have you spent time around them enough to know? If not, volunteer for a children's organization, work PT for a daycare center, babysit your relative's/friend's kids, substitute teach.
    3. Are you ready to add another person to your life for good? Lives are ruined by answering "no". No one ever benefits from a poor parent.
    4. Can you find other grants that are not related to number of dependants? Could taking a second job delivering pizza bring a similar financial gain with time?

For those of us who REALLY want children and are struggling to even conceive, the child has NOTHING to do with a tax return or college grant. You need to really want this change.

Having a kid just to get a grant is probably the worst thing you could do, have a baby because you WANT a baby not because you need cash for college.

And the fact that you even have to ask says you shouldn't procreate.

If you need money for an education just go to the loan officer and flash your ample cleavage and you should get it no problem.

    first answer these questions:
    1) Generally, do you want to have a baby?
    2) Are you able to provide a stable and healthy enviornment for said child without extra grant $$$?

If yes, than the rest is just details. If there happens to be a greater financial benefit, than you have to view that as a bonus.

Having the kid to get an increased educational grant is no different from the welfare receipient who does the same. WRONG REASON to have a kid, and that is NOT good for you or the kid.

We have taken that into consideration.

If you had, then you would have a clear and decisive answer.

  • God, I always forget I have to put every little detail in here.

First, I am asking people to put themselves in the mode of thought, I'm not asking people to assume that it's me I'm talking about. Of course, by my posting, it's assumed. I am in no financial state or living situation to have a kid any time soon in the future.

What option A poses is that other than the fact that you wanted to have the child, made the conscience decision to have the child and YET there was also another gain, other than the obvious.

I've gotta get to work, this should be interesting.

Having a child for monetary gain is about the most selfish, asinine idea I've ever heard of.

The fact that you can't choose between A and B speaks volumes about your character, or rather lack thereof.

:D absolutely... what a ridiculous reason to have the child. If this person genuinely wanted to have a kid and was ready to have one now, then this question wouldn't be a topic on the pit right now. It seems they're not sure and are thinking this would be one reason it could work... but no... if they need to think about it on these terms, doesn't sound like they're anywhere near ready.

If you are going to have a child because you want to, and have the ability to raise and care for the child, then nothing else should matter. Whether it be a bigger tax return or educational grants or free concert tickets..... basically what Get_Right said.

Yes, we assumed by you starting the thread it was in reference to yourself...but perhaps this comment was another reason:
