are you screwing into wallboard or wood? likei said the hole may be stripped so you can a) move it to another position or b) get an anchor screw - it's a plastic insert that you put into the hole and the screw goes into that.....am i making any sense? :)

Aah! Thank you!!! That's the technical jargon I was looking for! :D

I've just renovated an entire house....kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, tiling, crown molding, drywall, painting, you name it on a house project and I've done it.

I also helped my brother remodel his house and cottage, including ripping out some load bearing walls.

but I am drawing a blank on closet rods...

Nice work roland! :) Closet rods are tricky suckers though. Especially in a girls closet. :) Least that's been my experience of them. :D

Ok, well if it is attached by screws then it might be that the thread in the screw hole is ruined in which case you could keep tightening it till the cows come home but it doesn't have anything to grip against. Can you see inside the screw hole with a torch maybe? If that's what it is, you may find you need to remove both of the mounts and rescrew them into a higher or lower position in the cupboard. Make a new thread for the screw so to speak. If you do that you'll have to measure up and it might be an idea to glue and screw when you re-attach. Does that make sense? :)

YES! Thanks so much Jeanie. You are quite handy. But it is my clothes closet not a cupboard? Is cupboard an Australian term? :D

Well I only know about that because it's happened to me before Allie! :D

I was such a clotheshorse once my wardrobe was usually overflowing. :)

Cupboard, wardrobe, clothes closet all the same thing to me. :D

Anyway, it's relatively easy to fix when you've had to a few times as I have! :D

:D Well I'd be happy to oblige seeing as I've recently had a cull in my wardrobe. :D But my rod is still intact. It bent and bowed a lot but it didn't break and now I've relieved it of the excess things are all good in there. :)

i'm thinking you might want to use toggle bolts....they're stronger than plastic anchors and since this is a closet rod you want all the strength you can get

Oh you are most welcome love. :) Think cb's got you on the right path anyway. :)

Yeah, I'm right in the middle of a massive clear out here! I'm tired of having too much stuff! So I've been brutal in my culling and I feel strangely liberated now! :)

I know what you mean! Roland was talking about 'signs' and I did feel like it was an omen that it was time to 'clean out'! I'm going to donate some of the suits I never wear and I took out all the stuff I never wear!

    It does indeed feel liberating

    hah,
I love when guys are all handy like this! One of the drawbacks of being single :(
but oooh that requires a drill. Which I do not have and would be afraid to try and use.

The plastic anchor doo-hickeys seem simpler :)

wait can't I just get some Krazy Glue? :) Lol. Just kidding!

Oh yes!! :D I had all kinds of signs it was time and I threw myself into it and got rid of a whole bunch of things that I don't need or will ever wear again, not to mention shoes. And now I'm working on the filing and getting rid of a bunch of papers and then I'll move onto the computer and purge a whole bunch of crap from there too! :)
