The Rod in my closet keeps falling

Guys, (or ladies)-or anybody handy,

I have a wooden rod in my closet that my clothes hang on

and it keeps falling! The thing that the rod goes into on the wall keeps coming loose. I fastened it with some duct tape b/c that's all I have on hand, is there something else I can do? SHould I buy a new rod in Home Depot? Can I glue it or something?

I am not very handy with these things. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

(oh and yes I took some of the clothes out of the closet, I thought I had too much stuff hanging on there).

It's a sign from above that you need to spend more time in the closet manipulating the rod...

Ok Allie, talk to me. I'm having trouble visualizing.

So the rod keeps falling out of the mounting?

And you think the mounting is flawed? Like is it coming off the wall?
    NOPE!!!

    Hah! You are handy, Jeanie.

If the mounting is the thing you put the rod in, then yes, that's the problem. it's not coming off the wall but it's coming loose and leans forward and then the rod comes loose and falls from that side

yea chiqui's right.....it sounds like the screw holes have been stripped.....try a new position...:)
  • Grab the rod firmly with both hands and give it a good tug...

That always helps mine stay up...

Well let's not get too excited! :D I'm not that handy! :p haha! :D

So the mounting I assume has a round cradle for the rod to sit in?

And what's it made of? Are there any screws attaching it to the wall?

I guess what's it made of and what's the area it's attached to made of?

If it's just sitting there with no screws then you probably want some heavy duty glue to glue back to the wall.

If the housing for the rod is broken in some way you may want new mounts

And if it's screwed into the wall or has holes so that it can be screwed into the wall you might wanna do that for extra strength.
    NOPE!!!

you are more handy then me Jeanie cause I have no idea what you said
It's a circular thing, there's one screw in the middle of it
I tightened the screw with a screwdriver
the whole thing is made out of wood

  • The rod is falling down because it think the owner is too uptight...

Just get the servants to deal with it....sigh..

Ok, well if it is attached by screws then it might be that the thread in the screw hole is ruined in which case you could keep tightening it till the cows come home but it doesn't have anything to grip against. Can you see inside the screw hole with a torch maybe? If that's what it is, you may find you need to remove both of the mounts and rescrew them into a higher or lower position in the cupboard. Make a new thread for the screw so to speak. If you do that you'll have to measure up and it might be an idea to glue and screw when you re-attach. Does that make sense? :)
    NOPE!!!

are you screwing into wallboard or wood? likei said the hole may be stripped so you can a) move it to another position or b) get an anchor screw - it's a plastic insert that you put into the hole and the screw goes into that.....am i making any sense? :)

I've just renovated an entire house....kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, tiling, crown molding, drywall, painting, you name it on a house project and I've done it.

I also helped my brother remodel his house and cottage, including ripping out some load bearing walls.

but I am drawing a blank on closet rods...

:D Well I'd be happy to oblige seeing as I've recently had a cull in my wardrobe. :D But my rod is still intact. It bent and bowed a lot but it didn't break and now I've relieved it of the excess things are all good in there. :)
