I came within an ass hair of firing someone today

I'm 15-20 mins late every day and about an hour late 1-2/month. But, I still meet my production goals so blah. Plus being on salary doesn't hurt.

The importance of punctuality really varies from job to job. For some jobs, the work is so menial that there is no other way to gauge an employee's performance.

Granted, meetings and such I am never late for. I would have just given the employee a half hour later start time. But, it really depends on the situation. It sounds like you would have done it another way if you could have.

Perhaps explain that it isn't really fair on all the other people who do manage to make it in on time. I gotta say that one common trait most managers seem to have, is that they are seriously lacking when it comes to people skills. Try communicating with people on a human level rather just a manager/employee level.

I agree... when I was 19 I was a mess and I wouldn't have had it any other way
