He has been a half hour late 2 out of his current three days on the job. He is young (19) and I gave him one last chance but he knows if he screws up again...he's gone.

Being a manager has its ups and downs, this was a down.

i wouldn't stand for tardiness....it shows a lack of respect for your employer and the job itself....
  • I agree and under any other situation and circumstance, he would be gone.

    LOL
I don't manage a burger king, it's called Pluto's Burgers and I will have you know I worked my way to the top: started as dish boy went to fries then burgers then cashier then Supervisor of fries and finally Manager. Everyone thinks its easy working in the fast food business but its not, some days are diamonds, some days are rough.
    :(

Prince Akeem: Sir, did you happen to catch the professional football contest on television last night?

    Cleo McDowell: No, I didn't.

Prince Akeem: Oh sir, the Giants of New York took on the Packers of Green Bay. And in the end, the Giants triumphed by kicking an oblong ball made of pigskin through a big "H". It was a most ripping victory.

    Cleo McDowell: Son.

    Prince Akeem: Yes?

Cleo McDowell: If you want to keep working here, stay off the drugs.

    Prince Akeem: Yes.

During adolescence the human brain goes through a growth process with major changes in the frontal lobe. A common side-effect is altered sleeping patterns, adolescence tend to stay up later and sleep in later, a natural result of their changing physiology. This stage of brain development can continue to age 23 on average, sometimes later.

That's almost true. I thought the Bowfinger is not only hilarious, but also severely underrated. Other than that, his movies have been utter shit!

thanks for that post ahnimus :o

I think I'm still in that stage. Somebody said it shows a lack of respect for your boss and your job... I'm sorry but that's absolute bullshit. They may be the kinda people that bounce out of bed first thing in the morning as soon as the alarm clock goes off... but a lot of us simply can't do that. I'm NOT a morning person at all. This has nothing to do with my job or anything... I simply find it impossible to get out of bed in the mornings. I know that were I not working, my natural cycle would be a night owl... I would probably sleep during the day and stay up all night. I feel this being up during the day bullshit just doesn't seem natural.

If you think it's a lack of respect, it shows you have no understanding of others.... I've been in jobs I absolutely love where I still couldn't drag myself out of bed. I would wake up late disappointed in myself cos I can't physically do it. It's not a work thing either... I missed a flight this year cos I couldn't get up... I've missed out on things I've wanted to do cos I couldn't get up. And some of you may think it's a depression thing... it's not... I'm just not a morning person. If these things were at night, I wouldn't ever miss any of them...

sooooooo... don't take it so personally :o

Are you really saying that tardiness should be tolerated based on the fact that people are different? If you have a tendancy to want to be up during the night, then take a job where you work through the night -- easy solution eh? If you don't like being a "night-owl", you can change your sleeping pattern -- you aren't bound to it. I think it's bullshit when people say they can't physically do the morning thing -- go to bed earlier. If I can get my 10 month old to change her sleeping habits, any adult with half a brain can do it for themselves.

it amazes me how quick people are to put employees like that young guy into horrible jobs like burger kings or cleaners if they're not doing their job properly.

i'm about to resign from my job, cause if i stay for much longer i will loose all the nervous system i've got and become a nervous wreck. my dad told me the same thing today he put me down and said "ok, go ahead resign and work as a cleaner"

fucking hell, i know i made lots of mistakes at my work and that's why i'm going to presist on leaving them.....but that doesn't me i'm going to be some sort of cleaner all my life!!!

i'm mad but not at you.

Nope, I'm not saying it should be tolerated... I'm saying to say it's a lack of respect is bullshit. I respect my job and my bosses... me sleeping in has nothing to do with whether or not I respect them.

don't tell me to go to bed earlier... I'm fine once I get up... it's the getting up that's a big problem. And, for the record, I'm rarely, if ever, late... it was just the 'lack of respect' comment that pissed me off... cos that's bollox.

Tell him if he's ever late again you'll personally force feed him every item of junk food on the menu whilst butt-fucking him and using a burger wrapper as a condom. And that you'll bitch slap him as he gulps down a supersize shake.

It certainly isn't a respect issue. I have the same problem. Not that either of us is using it as an excuse, and as I suggested, the OP should do what's good for his business.

Sometimes I will not sleep in order to "correct" my sleeping patterns, but it never works, I find myself laying in bed for 3 or 4 hours and finally falling a sleep at my usual time, even though I've been up for almost two days. I'm struggling with the fact that I need to get an Upper G.I. a barium swallow, for my own health and well-being, to determine what is wrong with my stomach, but my inability to wake up in the morning means I've been putting this off for 2 months.

I've held 9-5 jobs, I even had my own business at which I worked 9 to 5. But I certainly feel a lot better succumbing to my natural inclination to sleep during the day. I work 3:30 PM to Midnight now and it's a lot easier, but it doesn't pay very well and I'm applying for a 9 to 5 and on-call job as an IT professional. The majority of people aren't going to understand this problem. My alarm clock is maxed out on volume. If I try to get up earlier for something important, like a fire inspection, my alarm will be blasting in my ear while the firemen are banging on my door and I will sleep right through it.

But many of us are brainwashed into thinking that modern economics, society and culture is 100% compatible with the human condition. Never considering that the "human condition" is essentially a myth, in that there is no standards of behavior or physiology of which all humans adhere to. At least, at least, 25% of obesity is caused by genetic variation, more will be included as more evidence is revealed, but as of now, the public at large, views 100% of obesity as a personal choice. It serves their egotistical goals of self preservation and social status.
