    i own a 22 caliber rifle and 2 12 gauge shotguns. i also have 2 children. the rifle and shotguns all have trigger guards on them. they're locked away in a place only i know about. i also don't keep bullets or shells in the house. i puchase them when i go hunting, and whatever i don't use, i leave at the camp for the next time i'm there. neither one of my children have seen them. my oldest is 12 right now. when he turns 14, i'll take him to a range and teach him the proper way to handle them.

    oh, and thanks for saying i'd deserve to get shot by someone that breaks into my home just because i have different beliefs than you. i appreciate it, and i'm sure my family would, too.

    just read through the rest of the thread and realized the OP didn't mean a gun owner deserves to get shot by someone breaking into their home. sorry, i read it wrong. but it appears others read it the same way i did. so i don't feel like a total dope about it.

    My view on guns changes from time to time. I don't think you can lump them all together first of all.

    Shotguns and hunting rifles - I in no way believe these should be banned. I don't think there is anything wrong with owning guns to hunt, whether for sport or food. Or if you live in rural areas and need them to protect your animals, etc. like previously mentioned.

    Assault rifles - I think every single one should be banned. There is no reason any person anywhere should own an AK47. The only thing an assault rifle was designed to do is kill a person. That's it.

    Handguns - Here is where I go back and forth. I don't like them. I wish they weren't necessary, but like many have posted, if you ban them then only criminals will have them. Also, I think it is too late to ban them anyway. They are everywhere. How would a ban work? Would the government came and collect them all? How would that go over? Not very well I imagine. If the US was going to ban handguns, it would have to have happened a long time ago. Same with assault rifles I guess. I personally don't like handguns, but I can also see the argument that a person should be allowed to keep one in the house for defense.

    I don't own any guns. My father does (a hunting rifle and a couple of shotguns) so I imagine I will get them when he passes.

    i dont think we should make laws based on a few irresponsible assholes doing stupid shit. i dont have a gun, but if i want one i want to be able to get it.
