I hate guns, OK?
I don't think they should be owned, for any purpose whatsoever. They are just designed to maim, kill and hurt people so I would never own or even touch one if I didn't have to. Although I can understand people having them to protect themselves if someone breaks into your appartment or tries to attack them. If you choose to do something like that then it serves you right if you end up with a bullet in your ass is how I feel sometimes....

I still don't think guns should be owned or kept in households, especially if there are children living there as well.

Do you think it is a good idea to own a gun?

No, but I've gone to a gun range before where they let you shoot off automatic machine guns....I'm not gonna lie, it was fucking fantastic.

I don't like guns. But i'm not against responsible people owning them. I also would like to see some sort of fingerprint recognition on the gun so only the owner of it can fire it.
  • I'm not a huge fans of guns but I've also been to a shooting range before and fired a 12-gauge shotgun. It was fucking awesome.

I have a problem with people who use guns irresponsively. I don't waste energy hating inanimate objects, generally ... I do hate Blackberries, though.

I own guns. Nice that the OP supports a criminal entering your home and shooting you with your own gun. Classy!

More classy than completely misunderstanding a sentence and commenting on that?

I argue with my father-in-law about this issue all the time. He thinks there is no valid reason to own a gun, ever, under any circumstances. I point out that he lives in a developed country, in a city with a relatively low violent crime rate ... He has the luxury of thinking that way, but not everyone does.

Don't they come with Happy Meals down there? :p
  • At a early age I was taught how to use a gun and to respect them. Having uncle's that were cops and family members that go hunting. I grew up with firearms and have never had a problem with them.

So you're agreeing that someone who owns a gun deserves to get shot with it? Classy!

    Smooth! Keep digging!

I'll help you out though - OP was saying the opposite - if you choose to break into someone's house than you deserve to get shot.

i have mixed feelings. they do scare me but i think because i don't know how to use it. i do think they are necessary. i don't own one but i'd love to learn how to shoot, just to know how. always seemed like a piece of knowledge that would be good to have.

Ahh, I completely misread it then. I have heard the argument so often that having a gun in the house will lead one to be shot with their own gun, and read the original post that it would serve them right.

My apologies to the OP and to Rygar for misunderstanding.

Sorry, but I can't agree with you. I own many guns and am responsible and legally allowed to own them. I think guns are a big reason you can live the way you live, FREE. Wars have been fought for hundreds of years in this country using guns and the men who fought with them won our freedom. Police have guns and allow you to sleep at night knowing that they are patrolling the community. As for citizens owning them, why not? As long as they have passed all the requirements in their jurisdiction, I don't see the problem. Most times, you don't see legally armed citizens committing crimes. The people who possess firearms illegally are the most likely offenders of the law because it's harder to trace the weapon. I do agree with the last statement of yours. Anyone who committs burglary should be prepared for people like me who are not afraid to protect my family and my belongings.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

I cautiously wade into this thread. The problem with this is that the requirements/gun laws in this country have lots of loopholes. Just as an example, check out Bowling for Columbine - for once, Michael Moore makes a point, and a poignant one at that, without outrageous showmanship.

And no, I don't like guns, but much too complicated to post about - at least while the Phils are on tv in the World Series. :)
  • I, for one, hope this does not get moved to AMT. With that being said...

I dunno. Whenever I go to SC, I usually shoot some guns with my cousin. My main problem with guns is how easy they are to get and how extreme gun advocates refuse to acknowledge that they can, and have often proven to be a problem.
