Mighty tight is an understatement...last train out of Mansfield station heading back to boston is at 10:17PM, so you would have to catch a cab before 10PM, so leave your seats around 9:30-9:45...not really an option for a show which should run till 11PM.

Correct though the last train back to boston use to run much later like 11:45 or so.........though riding the MBTA commuter trains could get a little dangerous.....

  • From a commuting standpoint this venue sucks. 45 minutes at minimum which could always turn into well over an hour. Jammed parking lot, and in the middle of nowhere.

No public transit which really blows. How I loved going to the last 4 shows at the Garden and just hopping on the green line. Oh, well.

As far as the venue goes once inside everyone says nothing but good things. I'm just pissed I have to rent a car after already shelling out the dough for the tix. It should still be great though.

  • the sound in the Gah-den for the 06 tour was great!!

tweeter center isn't all that as far as sound goes,it's really only good as your roadies. the commute absolutely fucking BLOWS!!! PJ is the only band that can draw me back to the tweeter.i only live about an hour away but like somebody already said, when you hit that commuter traffic it can be a nightmare.

i highly recommend getting there really early and tailgating it.i know i am!!!!!

I'd take the Tweeter Center over the Fleet anyday. The tailgating alone is worth it, but the whole feel of the show is much better.

As other's have said, if you can get in the front areas of sections 1-8, you're in decent shape. Those are all pretty good seats. Anything else, you may be better off going with the lawn, where at least there will be screens set up.
  • I'm making the trip down for the Mansfield show. I'm definitely staying in Mansfield the night of the concert and then I'll spend the following few days visiting Boston. My friend and I are going to taxi it home from the concert, since we want to have a few drinks, and now after hearing what a nightmare it is to get out of the parking lot, I'm glad we are.

If you're coming from out of town and paying for a hotel room anyway, you may as well make it easy on yourself and spend it in Mansfield. I wouldn't want to worry about missing the last train back or battling traffic. Not too mention that it'll be cheaper to stay in Mansfield. :) Also, I think someone mentioned in this thread that the train station is a half mile from the Tweeter Centre, but I was told that they were far enough apart that you'd need a taxi.
No time to be void or save up on life. You got to spend it all.
  • the garden sounds like crap. dont get me wrong id go to the garden in heartbeat. tweeter center has amazing sound quality.

I disagree. I don't think outdoor shows do any justice for rock. the sound gets too dispersed. plus, sheds are so spread out. you're miles away from the band, and there's too much empty space, you lose the intimacy. arenas over sheds all the way.

tell me about it. in 2003 when they played the accoustic pre-set at 6:30 pm or whatever, I had left cambridge at like 3:30, assuming I'd get there in plenty of time. I missed like half the accoustic set.

AND the tweeter attracts far too many drunken frat boys drinking and driving. I had a HORRIBLE experience with them at one of the 03 shows. I was leaving alone and I literally thought these guys in the parking lot were going to attack me- they were jumping all over my car and everything. it was the worst pj experience possible.

Yeah..I was shocked at how bad it was in 04. It was still cool being there...

it actually could be worse 4th of july week--cape traffic if you're heading south.

Train is a bad idea...there is no easy way to get to Great Woods, er...Tweeter Center from the train. The guy who referenced the Pats game is right about the 1/2 mile walk but the only problem is the Pats don't really play anywhere near Mansfield. Foxborough is a good 20-40 minutes away, depending on traffic.

Best bet may be to take the train into Boston and see if you can hook up with someone from there. But leave early - traffic traveling south out of the city, on a work day, is usually a nightmare. Re: seating: anything under the roof is good. I've sat in the last row under the roof and it's fine.

Someone on another thread said getting in and out of Mansfield is easier if you fly into Providence. True or false?
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do
  • Someone on another thread said getting in and out of Mansfield is easier if you fly into Providence. True or false?

mansfield is pretty close to providence, and traffic would probably be lighter, but you still would have to drive. even if there were a train at the right times (I doubt it though) there's no way to get from the mansfield commuter rail stop to the venue. it's not exactly a pedestrian friendly area.
  • Also, I think someone mentioned in this thread that the train station is a half mile from the Tweeter Centre, but I was told that they were far enough apart that you'd need a taxi.

I don't think it's an issue of distance, I think the infrastructure is such that it's an autocentric suburb and there isn't a pedestrian route.

True. The airport (which is just south of PVD) is a cakewalk to get in and out of. Just head up 95 for about 30 minutes hit 495 south and it's the first exit off of it. I hate going to the Fleetcenter. It's a pain in the ass because of all the construction (or it was). I'd rather have my eye lids nailed to a wall than drive into Boston on a weekday. The ExpressWay blows.

If you park outside the Tweet and don't mind hoofing it for a bit, traffic is a non issue. Every time I go there there is a guy who lets you park in his back yard for like 20 bucks. Easy in, easy out.

I enjoy the Tweeter Center more than the Fleet. At least in the lawn they have the big screens so you can see the show
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.

    it's the garden now :)

but you don't really have to drive to boston do you? I mean I live in the city but I thought the commuter rail spreads pretty far out.

I agree. Very bad sound there!
    Hold On
  • You're gonna need a car and you're going to need to leave wicked early.

That's the BIG drawback to this location.

I can't keep up with all the name changes. :)

The rails do spread far out but the Middleboro stop is the closest point for me and that's half an hour from my house. (The South Coast always gets the shaft) By the time I got on the T I'd probably already be in Brockton/Avon area if I drove. When I lived in Middleboro I took the rails into the city to go to the Arts museum. I really didn't like it. I guess when you live in the city and are used to it, it becomes easy for you. Me being a suburbs guy I've pretty much driven everywhere I wanted to go.

Tweeter Center is a terrific venue. Saw my first PJ show there and am happy to hear that they are going back. Fleet Center is ok, but it cannot compare to being outdoors in Mansfield. And carpooling is a good way to cut back on emissions.
