there might be a thread about this somewhere already...who knows...

I thought they weren't ever gonna play there again? I mean I know it wasn't official or anything, but damn, I was getting so used to going to shows in the city! the tweeter center is for old people!

kidding aside, we all have to pollute to get there- there's pretty much no way to get there without driving. multiply the emissions by all the fans at the show...

I mean I'm still going to go of course, but I wonder if they tried to get the garden and couldn't for some reason?

Ed sung "we don't ever have to play this outdoor place again" during YL at Boston 3 and said next time "see you at the Fleet" but don't take his every word as gospel. They'd probably made plans already for the VFC tour and knew they would be there so maybe it was a hint.

so the mansfield venue isn't accessible by public transit? or within walking distance of public transit? i've been looking into that show as a backup to NYC if i don't get the tickets, and it seemed to be on a transit line, somewhere. please tell me if i am wrong - this makes a big difference!! also, is it or is it not public transit accessible from boston? from what i saw, it's just like a suburb.

Pretty sure my Uncle takes the train there for every Pats game. It drops you off close enough to walk less than 1/2 Mile if I remember correctly. Literally drops you off in the parking lot or there about.

Could someone confirm this as I'm not 100% since the new stadium.

i was there twice in 03, and if i remember correctly, it's like 45-50 minutes south of boston.

well, not sure if it was south, but it was definitely like 45 minutes.

There's a commuter rail to Mansfield. You need to take a cab ride to the venue though
  • since you've been there before, hows the seating? any seat besides lawn good seats?

all amphitheaters are the same...and yes any seat is decent, but more importantly they always have great sound.

Down low is good, and lawn isn't actually all that bad provided it's not raining, of course, but I feel like the second tier of seating is hit or miss if you end up in it. Just hope you don't end up behind a pole!

For the record, I'm rather short, and that definitely has strong bearing on my opinion.

    Sound IS awesome.

I'm not from Boston but I did go to Boston 3 and we looked into the train from Boston and from what I remember it was going to be mighty tight to get the last train before the end of the show. It's in the middle of nowhere (well seemed to be) and you wouldn't wanna get stuck in there. We trained it there and back but got a motel for the night of the show and got a taxi to and from the show. I'd highly recommend that if your from out of town and don't know the area and book a motel early. As far ad the venue went, I loved it but we don't have sheds in Europe or Australia so maybe it was novelty value, I thought the sound was great though where we were seated.

    I love the Tweeter center.

    Me too
  • Train is a bad idea...there is no easy way to get to Great Woods, er...Tweeter Center from the train. The guy who referenced the Pats game is right about the 1/2 mile walk but the only problem is the Pats don't really play anywhere near Mansfield. Foxborough is a good 20-40 minutes away, depending on traffic.

Best bet may be to take the train into Boston and see if you can hook up with someone from there. But leave early - traffic traveling south out of the city, on a work day, is usually a nightmare. It is 4th of July week so that may reduce that problem a little but if you leave the city anytime after 4 pm, you are rolling the dice big time...

Re: seating: anything under the roof is good. I've sat in the last row under the roof and it's fine.

i saw my first paerl jam show there (night 3, 03) i was about 1/2 way up the second section of seats. had a great view and the sound was great.

if you get seats back too far, they are un-covered. which sucks if its raining....and it always rains when i go there. make sure you are down low to stay dry.

Mighty tight is an understatement...last train out of Mansfield station heading back to boston is at 10:17PM, so you would have to catch a cab before 10PM, so leave your seats around 9:30-9:45...not really an option for a show which should run till 11PM.

Correct though the last train back to boston use to run much later like 11:45 or so.........though riding the MBTA commuter trains could get a little dangerous.....

  • From a commuting standpoint this venue sucks. 45 minutes at minimum which could always turn into well over an hour. Jammed parking lot, and in the middle of nowhere.

No public transit which really blows. How I loved going to the last 4 shows at the Garden and just hopping on the green line. Oh, well.

As far as the venue goes once inside everyone says nothing but good things. I'm just pissed I have to rent a car after already shelling out the dough for the tix. It should still be great though.

  • the sound in the Gah-den for the 06 tour was great!!

tweeter center isn't all that as far as sound goes,it's really only good as your roadies. the commute absolutely fucking BLOWS!!! PJ is the only band that can draw me back to the tweeter.i only live about an hour away but like somebody already said, when you hit that commuter traffic it can be a nightmare.

i highly recommend getting there really early and tailgating it.i know i am!!!!!
  • CantKeepmedownCantKeepmedown Posts: 3,024
I'd take the Tweeter Center over the Fleet anyday. The tailgating alone is worth it, but the whole feel of the show is much better.

As other's have said, if you can get in the front areas of sections 1-8, you're in decent shape. Those are all pretty good seats. Anything else, you may be better off going with the lawn, where at least there will be screens set up.
  • I'm making the trip down for the Mansfield show. I'm definitely staying in Mansfield the night of the concert and then I'll spend the following few days visiting Boston. My friend and I are going to taxi it home from the concert, since we want to have a few drinks, and now after hearing what a nightmare it is to get out of the parking lot, I'm glad we are.

If you're coming from out of town and paying for a hotel room anyway, you may as well make it easy on yourself and spend it in Mansfield. I wouldn't want to worry about missing the last train back or battling traffic. Not too mention that it'll be cheaper to stay in Mansfield. :) Also, I think someone mentioned in this thread that the train station is a half mile from the Tweeter Centre, but I was told that they were far enough apart that you'd need a taxi.
No time to be void or save up on life. You got to spend it all.
  • the garden sounds like crap. dont get me wrong id go to the garden in heartbeat. tweeter center has amazing sound quality.

I disagree. I don't think outdoor shows do any justice for rock. the sound gets too dispersed. plus, sheds are so spread out. you're miles away from the band, and there's too much empty space, you lose the intimacy. arenas over sheds all the way.
  • i only live about an hour away but like somebody already said, when you hit that commuter traffic it can be a nightmare.

tell me about it. in 2003 when they played the accoustic pre-set at 6:30 pm or whatever, I had left cambridge at like 3:30, assuming I'd get there in plenty of time. I missed like half the accoustic set.

AND the tweeter attracts far too many drunken frat boys drinking and driving. I had a HORRIBLE experience with them at one of the 03 shows. I was leaving alone and I literally thought these guys in the parking lot were going to attack me- they were jumping all over my car and everything. it was the worst pj experience possible.

it actually could be worse 4th of july week--cape traffic if you're heading south.
