It's like the new Harry Potter except even more directed towards women. There's a whole freaking series!

I have only recently heard about the book.
    I will not read it.

My girlfriend is obsessed with the series. I can only presume it's the equivalent of my Pearl Jam obsession in terms of irritation factor.

Yeah, I despise Harry Potter so I'm guessing I would NOT enjoy this. Oh well...like I said, I'd never even heard of it until now.

I never really heard of those books till the movie came out. It doesn't really look like anything special. I guess if you are a big fan of the books it's a big deal.

Any of you who, in any way, fancy yourself a writer, go pick up that book and read one page. Some of the worst writing I have ever read... ever. Jeebus, I really need to dumb my writing down (and I'm not smart!) in order to appeal to the masses.

Does anyone know of any guys who have read the books? As far as I can tell, they sell exclusively to teenage girls, or women who wish they were. :p

My girlfriend's daughter reads them and she loves them. The previews of the movie pretty much sealed it's fate in my opinion.

Long story. Actually, it's not. My wife's friend loaned it to her. My wife was reading it on the couch and I was sitting next to her. I read about a paragraph before I started laughing.

Anyone familiar with the concept of "show don't tell" when writing will find this book particularly maddening. Worst writer ever!

There's girls in my class that are obsessed with it, and they're like...20 maybe?

I thought it was for kids. I'm pretty sure my niece read it and she's 13...

apparently. my wife told me about there being a book. she never read it, she prefers good reads, but i guess her sister and niece have.

seems like almost any movie based on a book gets way over hyped

It's about emo vampires. My wife is an english teacher and so many of her kids did book reports on it she read the first one. She said it's pretty badly written and nowhere near as clever as Harry Potter. The author's "out" for the whole vampires and the Sun thing is they live in Washington state where it's cloudy a lot. Give me a break.

The book has sold bajillions of copies to teenage girls that feel strange new quivers when they fantasize letting some sexy vampire boy that is dark and romantic sink his teeth into them. They will be there by the zillions to swoon over said vampire.

My girlfriend is going. I make fun of her mercilessly for reading them.
she was underwhelmed, if that's a word

They're just good clean, classicist mythological fun. Each book has a mystery, smooth writing. Good stuff. Entertaining as all hell. But then, even as a lit major I was never a snob. I read because I love a good story and loathe the narcissism of the current writers. It's why I'm a big Michael Chabon fan, even if he has fallen off the wagon.
