Why on Earth can we not get a Dark Tower movie series??
How many copies did each of those sell compared to the Dark Tower? Sadly, the fantasy genre is kind of a niche one, and the cost of 7 Dark Tower movies is unlikely to make if profitable. Even LOTR was hard pressed to keep people on board for 3 movies and it's hugely popular around the world.
I think the mini series idea has promise. They're doing a mini series for George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire, so I could see someone picking up Dark Tower.she was underwhelmed, if that's a word0 -
supposed to be all-the-rage with girls around my age. there are some huge fans at my high school, but as a whole, my school isn't too obsessed. i've never read the book, but i know that a bunch of my good friends who have really dislike it. plus, the fact that it's become popular makes them dislike it even more.
but me, i've never read it/seen it, so im pretty neutral on this subject0 -
looks like this movie is helping tourism to Forks, WA (a former logging town):

I read the book because I was writing a YA book and someone said Twilight was a good model. OMG, the writing is so awful and the main character is this shallow dull girl who only exists to lust after Edward the sexy vampire (with his "well-muscled chest"). They can't kiss because if they do, her scent will make him bite her.
I only read the first one - I guess they get married in book 3 or 4 and she gets pregnant (?).

I've heard the author was a Mormon or something, and that there's a strong feminist backlash to these books. The main charcter is apparently the old ideal woman who is completely subservient and worshipful of her man and there are all these veiled references to how dangerous and evil it is to have sex. I don't think I could stomach these.she was underwhelmed, if that's a word0 -
yea, twilight is friggin huge at my high school. all these people think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. its really ridiculous."I changed by not changing at all"0

It would be a lot of movies though, or a lot cut out.
They could combine Gunslinger with The Drawing of the Three as one movie maybe. Wastelands as the second movie, skip the Wizard or Glass because it is a prequal essentially, and so on..0 -
Is the title of my email this morning from a very good friend. I read the series which I enjoyed. Yes, its a tweenie book, but I liked it. It was fast and easy and entertaining and no worse then any romance novel on the shelf. But my friend who went to the movies summed it all up, her sister turned to her during it and said "I'm embarrassed for myself" and her 14 yr old niece said "That was the best movie I have ever seen".
I'll see it, but wait for the DVD release.Thank you fellow 10 clubber for saving my ass....again!!!0 -
I loved South Park's take on the whole tween vampire craze.0

I heard about this movie on the news, the news anchor said "Move over Harry Potter, theres a new kid in town." I was confused because I hadnt heard anything about either the book or the movie until a few days ago.I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning

Well, if you read romance novels then I don't think anyone's expecting you to be a barometer of good literary tasteshe was underwhelmed, if that's a word0 -

That's interesting, I didn't pick up on all that. Granted, I wasn't reading it all that deeply, or looking for meaning or anything. I read the first one this weekend, and I have to admit...I liked it. I'm 29 and female, btw. Read it on a recommendation of a friend of mine.
It's mindless, quick reading. And it's a decent story, I thought. I'm sure I'll read the other three just to find out what happens...that said, I won't see the movie. Looks awful. I certainly would't put the book anywhere near my top books of all time...but it's not THAT terrible. I kind of ejoyed it...tween-aged vampires, fun!0 -

So reading a romance novel every now and then makes me a literary idiot? I don't think so, jeez, some people are so snobby..

I didnt read the whole thread but what I've gathered you have to be a dorky/horny teenager to enjoy it
All over the news here it looked like a Proactiv commerical at the mall with screaming girlsMy drinking team has a hockey problem

yeah, it's true that the book (haven't read it yet but i think it's interesting) is teen-aged oriented, but you are pretty harsh to judge and label the people as "being dorky/horny teenager" if they enjoyed reading the book or watching the movie, just saying...what is essential is invisible to the eye

it is very teen orientated. i read it over the weekend and was a bit disappointed that i couldnt really get into it. i realise i am outside the demographic. but tis about vampires for christs sake. and nothing is more appealing to me than vampires.
personally i found it to be a disneyfication of vampires. kinda like sweet valley high vampires. the characters were for me not fleshed out enough. though edward interests me. im waiting for him to totally lose his shit. and not against a bad guy.hear my name

I've tried hard to instill my love of books into my kids, and every little helps. Anything that gets people to read more can only be a good thing....even if it is crap writing
You make a FANTASTIC point! Which is better: a "good" video game or a "bad" book?unifiedscene wrote:I've heard the author was a Mormon or something
Actually, my wife reads a LOT and most of it is "good" writing. But she likes these books, too. What can I say? :rolleyes:If I had known then what I know now...
