    Glen Sather spoke to reporters yesterday after the draft in Ottawa about his top three free agents. Everything he said boiled down to one statement that he made: "So, you know, it's negotiating," especially with respect to the salary cap and the desire to bring along more young players. He said he wants Jaromir Jagr back, the question being the dollar amount and one- or two-year contract length. He said he wants Sean Avery back but more along the lines of Chris Kelly's $2 million-plus contract, not the $4 million range he's been supposedly asking for. And he said that he told Brendan Shanahan that he has to wait to see who else the Rangers sign before his own status can be addressed.

    While Sather did not talk about the other two Ranger free agents -- Martin Straka and Michal Rozsival -- Larry Brooks of the Post reports that he has gotten permission to talk to free agent offensive defenseman Brian Campbell, which indicates strongly that he has a desire to replace Rozsival as the team's #1 defenseman. Other clubs have also asked San Jose for permission to talk to Campbell prior to July 1st and will owe the Sharks compensation in the form of a draft pick should they succeed in signing him.     i'm with you. signing avery should be the teams #1 priority this summer.

    but, there is no chance in hell sather is giving him 4 million. especially after rupturing his spleen. i don't know too much about an injury like that, but it is definitely going to be a cause of concern for the rest of his career in my opinion.

    avery is gonna get 4 million somewhere so sather better pony up
    otherwise he is gone

    well if kelly got 4 mill and avery is as valuable to the rangers like he knows he is...(what was our record with/without him again??), Seans gotta want no less than 4 per.

    kelly only getting 2 mil per

    and yes avery is gonna be offered 4 or more by many teams

    Avery will be offered 4 million by very few teams...
    It's like offering your mascot 4 million because you've got a winning record when he's in attendance..

    avery - man aside from his extra cirricular antics, the guys got skills.
    he can score- he's not really mascot material.
    maybe they can give him an offer that is laden with incentives and give him the bonuses in extra form at different levels, if he goes so far without injury or incident, stuff like that .
    c';mon they can get it together its nothing new- its all been done before !

    I been sayin the Rangers should go after Rolston for a while now and todays NYPost reports the same thing....great power play guy, can play the point for a winger/center, speedy...but will the Wild let him go??. If we lose Avery and Tyutin then they HAVE to go after him. Heard Jerseys gonna be in the running to bring him back as well.
