But it has very little depth compared to the others; none of the aggression; it's mixed in a totally lacklustre, conservative way; Matt hardly ever rocks hard (WWS is a major exercise in boredom-drumming - closed hi hats all the way, COME ON MAN this isn't jazz).
Where is the intelligence in the songs, compared to songs like 'No Way' and 'Faithful' and 'Last Exit' and 'Grievance' and 'Long Road'.... you name it....
Sorry everyone. I wish I felt differently.
I completely agree. I have tried and tried to like this album but I can not get into it. Since its release I play the cd once every couple of weeks to hope that it gains my interest but I can barely listen to it. Being a big PJ fan from the beginning I feel like I need to like it but I can't. I wonder how many of us fans can really admit that the album is not great.0 -

Agreed.
I just need one more great album, and then I can officially write this one off.'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. His mum and dad were Merry and Joseph. He had a bed made of clay and the three kings bought him Gold, Frankenstein and Merv as presents.'

I'd call it a "fun" album. Fun songs that are good enough to enjoy listening to without being particularly deep or moving you.
But I'll take almost all of their other albums over this one.you couldn't swing if you were hangin' from a palm tree in a hurricane.0 -

Again, agreed. It is a fun album, a good sunny day album. I've just never really seen Pearl Jam as a sunny day band.'We're learning songs for baby Jesus' birthday. so what.
i don't like Avocado either! does that make me a lesser fan? hell no.
for me, personally, this album just lacks spirit... it doesn't have the light of Yield, doesn't have the darkness of Binaural and Riot Act, it just lingers somewhere in between and it feels awefully safe and mainstream to me.
i don't necessarily want the new album to be No Code II, but i do hope they'll bring that... "fuck it - we're gonna do this OUR way" attitude back. experiment, please!
but hey, this is just MY opinion.
AMEN
Maybe they could make Eleven(the follow up to Ten) this time round, lol"So forget the other boys because my love is real.

I have to say that the "avocado" album is my favorite. I just think it is solid from front to back. So many great songs IMO. I actually was hoping that they toured this album more than they did.0

That would definitely be Riot Act, sorry.I pledge to you a government that will not only work well, but wisely, its ability to act tempered by prudence, and its willingness to do good, balanced by the knowledge that government is never more dangerous than when our desire to have it help us blinds us to its great power to harm us.

Even though Avocado is not my favorite (that would be Vitalogy) I still feel its a really good album. I actually like all the songs on the album and love a couple too (severed hand, comatose, army reserve). But of course I'm hoping for something different for their next album- something we wouldnt expect.severed hand thirteen2006: Gorge 7/23 2008: Hartford 6/27 Beacon 7/1 2009: Spectrum 10/30-31

Oh please thread starter. Comatose and Worldwide Suicide melt the faces off- off anything on NO Code and Yield. Smart people (like Rolling Stone jouirnalist David Fricke) disagree with your remarks. Life Wasted,WWS,Comatose,Big Wave,Severed and MITS were the freshest sounding garage punk batch of rocking songs since Vitalogy songs 1-8.
Deal with it.0 -

Army reserve and come back don't move you?

(jaw drops)
let's see WWS, unemployable, Gone, Army Reserve , LIFE WASTED!!
yeah, real breezy stuff. Might want to check the cd and make sure you didn't put a partridge family disc in there by mistake.0 -
I have to agree with the guy who says it's a sunny day type of album. I thought the same thing on my first listen of it.
overall, I think it's a pretty good album. better than Riot Act if you ask me. Come Back, Unemployable, and Big Wave are pretty bad but the rest is okay.2000: Camden 1, 2003: Philly, State College, Camden 1, MSG 2, Hershey, 2004: Reading, 2005: Philly, 2006: Camden 1, 2, East Rutherford 1, 2007: Lollapalooza, 2008: Camden 1, Washington D.C., MSG 1, 2, 2009: Philly 1, 2, 3, 4, 2010: Bristol, MSG 2, 2011: PJ20 1, 2, 2012: Made In America, 2013: Brooklyn 2, Philly 2, 2014: Denver, 2015: Global Citizen Festival, 2016: Philly 2, Fenway 1, 2018: Fenway 1, 2, 2021: Sea. With the exception of the current state of politics, they don't have much to be agressive about - rich, accomplished musicians who travel the world in style and have loving families to return home to.
I actually think they need to retire some songs, like Leash. Singing about teenage angst at this point in their lives is just silly.

They're still a rock band, y'know - Leash is not just a huge crowdpleaser, it's a fucking great rock song. No reason to retire it.Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.0 -
First post in the message pit. Late bloomer to this whole technology thing. Think leatherman. Anyway, on this whole "Avocado" issue, i've been following the band like I'm sure the rest of you all have from the beginning and this latest album is another great journey this band is taking us all on. Each album has grown along with the band and it's my humble opinion that there aren't any holes in any albums. This is the most rock solid and unwaivering band and we all should feel lucky and proud to be part of this. I just hope that there will come another worth passing the torch to. Can't wait for June 30th in Mansfield. Like E.V. asked at the Gorge in '05 "where do you go when you leave?" I feel like I'm the only one out there blasting PJ in my car. Where are the rest of you? Great crowds at the shows but everyone seems to dissappear into the woodworks after that. Hope to hear you out there and see you at the shows. Love you all Jamily!!!"..I'm not present, I'm the drug that makes you dream, I'm an aerostar, I'm a cutlass supreme in the wrong lane trying to turn against the flow, I'm the ocean, I'm the giant undertow..."

hey, welcome to the board.
i stay outta debates about this album. i think its solid, and tied for my favorite album. i just cant see how a PJ fan could not like this album myself.
but hey, to each their own, and thats why i wont go into why this is one of their best efforts.Peace, Love.
