Did Obama just forget he knew the guy??

Where did Obama ever say that he didn't know him at all? In Illinois, a comment like that would be laughable. I started out on the bottom rung on a political campaign in southern Illinois, and even I knew who Tony Rezko was.
I'm not acting like he is the saviour. I'm defending someone I've worked with in the past in the Illinois Senate, and you have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.0 -
unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487If you read these replies people were claiming he only had five hours or work with him implying that he barely knew him. Obama has claimed that he couldn't remember details about the guy, and that he didn't know him. Better yet read the first paragraph of the OP.
I grew up right down the street from where he owned these properties. I voted for him for Senate. What has he done for the people of Illinois? Nothing.
Of course you make your point well when you find the need to drop the F-Bomb to guide your way.0 -

The OP is referring to the debate where Clinton accused him of working with Tony Rezko. That's where he said the five hour comment.
There's nothing wrong with distancing yourself from someone has the background of Rezko. You guys are acting like Obama is jerking Rezko off whenever he opens his mouth. What do you want him to do? He donated the money from Rezko to a charity, said he made a mistake in the land deal, and came clean on working for a total of five hours on a project with ties to Rezko---not even him personally. All of those things together show that yes, there was some sort of relationship. It also shows that he is putting that behind him.0 -

There is, however, something wrong with being dishonest. There's no way after all the strings that tie these two together that he can say he only worked with the guy for 5 hours. He was covering his ass and frankly, that's a trait I'm tried of seeing in our elected officials. Why not be upfront with the american people? Because he, like most other politicians, figures what we don't know won't hurt us.If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

first, mcCain never said that he would keep teh US in perpetual war, secondly, Obama will NOT bring the troops home in 08. 3, who are you to tell anyone who they should vote for and make them feel that they are the reason that americans are getting their limbs blown up. you are doing the same thing that rep. do by saying if you elect a democrate the terriorist will attack.People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid."

"Myth #1: Obama did legal work for Rezko
Claim: Hillary Clinton during a debate denounced Obama for "representing your contributor, Rezko, in his slum landlord business in inner city Chicago."
The truth: According to Factcheck.org, "Obama was associated with a law firm that represented the community groups working with Rezko on several deals. There's no evidence that Obama spent much time on them, and he never represented Rezko directly. So it was wrong for Clinton to say he was ‘representing ... Rezko.’ That's untrue." "
i'm done with this thread.
'what i'm basing it on is:
-he was on obama's campaign finance committee for senate
-he gave a fundraiser for obama's senate campaign at his house (is this the same house that was next door to obamas or another one?)
-he raised over $10,000 in donations for obama's senatorial campaign
-obama wrote him a letter of recommendation for his fundraising efforts
-raised even more money for obamas presidential campaign
-so far has given away over $80,000 tha rezko raised for obamas political career
sorry, but i highly dount this guy would raise over 10grand for his senate race and all the other points above and obama NEVER met him. doesn't it seem odd, especially for his senate race he wouldn't meet a guy who raised over 10grand for him??
i'm sure you'd just believe hillary if it were about here, riiiiiiight? oh, wait....i highly doubt you'd believe her and i think you know this
so drop the 'legal work' angle, he knew the guy, he was involved w/ him more than 5hrs of work on a legal case
and plz tell me what year i will be allowed to vote for who i actually like and believe in, ok? b/c supposedly we couldn't do it last time and now you're saying i can't do it this time, either....do ya think maybe in 2012 i won't have to be scared of a republican taking office so much that i am duty bound to vote for the democrat?
it reminds me of that simpsons episode where the aliens dress up like clinton and dole, then even after the US discovering they are space aliens one of them says "you only have a 2 party system here, you HAVE to vote for one of us!" then perot pops out saying to vote for him and everyone laughs at him then votes for one of the space aliens....that's exactly how you guys are acting

Just pointing out dishonesty, that's all. He really should have kept the money because it wouldn't have mattered to you guys one way or the other. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

I would try to distance myself from the guy too if I were running for office. If him not being honest about knowing a shady guy is all you have against him...he's doing pretty good.0 -

I have read the whole thing. While you personally, have bigger issues against him, I don't think this is a make or break issue for Joe Voter.0 -

ledvedderman wrote:Didn't the whole Rezko thing come up when Obama said she was on the board at Wal Mart, and she fired back that he was working for Rezko? Well, he told the truth, he did about 5 hours of work for a company w/ dealings w/ Rezko. That's not a lie.
Has he collected money from him? Yes. You try and find any Chicago Democrat who hasn't. He did the right thing and returned the money. But as far as a working relationship, Obama was spot on with the 5 paid hours of work.
The land deal was a poor decision on his part and he has stated that time and time again. It isn't a big fucking deal though. It's not like he's got Rezko's dick in his mouth.
You bringing up Gov. Blagojevich though and the Rezko influence on him, and who the fuck cares? What's that have to do with Barack Obama. Rod Blagojevich is no Barack Obama by any stretch of the imagination.
i don't care, either, cos i never brought up gov blagojevich except where he was mention in an article.
he also wrote a letter of recommendation for him for his campaign work...he acted like he didn't really know the guy...imagine if there were a few links between hillary and jack abramoff like he worked on her senate campaign finance committee, had a fundraiser at his house, gave over $10,000, gave it back, wrote him a letter of recomendation for his fundraising efforts, then a few years later took another $70,000+ and gave that back,,,oh, and also worked on committees where rezko was being a slumlord but did....fuckall...except buy a pretty big house right next door and some land from his wife....
if all this happened w/ hillary you would not believe she just didn't really remember him or never really personally met him, you would see the bullshit w/ her while you give obama a free pass.
and it's not just about this issue that i won't fulfill my message pit duty to vote for obama, it's a lot of things like i already posted and others (like his economic advisor being the guy from citibank/group who called the treasury dept asking for help w/ enron) and all these things are just shrugged off and not really answered other than being told 'i don't care' by you guys

Seriously. If people are gonna act like this guy is this great symbol of hope and change we've all been waiting for, I'm going to have to call them on it. I don't care how pissy the fanatics get. If they had a leg to stand on then they could engage in civil discourse and rationally discuss our differences instead of acting so angry whenever a dissenting point is brought up about poor bama britches. If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.

Seems I've read a lot about people supporting this guy, but have read very little of substance.
Seems to be another corporate candidate, very vague.0 -
