I don't believe in abstinence but I don't want a party telling me to act a certain way and then going against those values and trying to cover it up.

I'm sure there isn't much to do in Alaska, probably did it out of boredom. I also know if I were 17 I'd be going after that.

from her favorite surrogate... her daughter.

christians, repubs, you can actually defend this and still claim she has good family values?
    .

Let's see her daughter gets pregnant, she doesn't kick her out of the house and she offers support to her during this time...what a terrible mother  If Sarah made her daughter have sex or condoned it or encouraged it, then you have a case against her. Her child is 17, most would agree at 17 the parents are not nearly involved or controlling as they are when a child is 7. How many on here at 17 did something there parents didnt agree with??? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. It never ceases to amaze me at how some on the left LOVE to point out other peoples faults; i thought the left had the monopoly on understanding and tolerance. I'm just glad to see that Obama rose above and is acting like a decent human being.

I wonder what is the Alaskan law pertaining to sex with someone under 18? If the guy is 18 that could be considered rape of a minor in some states.

She is rather irresistible. :) Just say no man, just say no.

the point is that were this any 17 year old but her own, this woman would be railing against the failures of the parents and touting her own abstinence-only views as the best prescription to prevent this. it reveals just how out of touch her policies are with reality. it has nothing to do with her personally or as a parent.
    and like that... he's gone.

Would it be the same if this was Obama's 17 year old daughter? At 17 I can tell you this I didn't impregnate anyone in fact I was still a virgin. :) Abstinence worked for me at that time.

When you endorse abstinence only programs, there's going to be backlash when one of your children becomes pregnant out of wedlock. Especially when you're running for a very publicized office. This is today's politics. You attack them however you can instead of debating them. I'm glad Obama is rising above it all. Apparently families aren't off limits though. Anyone remember when Mccain himself made a shitty joke about chelsea clinton back in 98?

It's pathetic that 17 year old girls are getting pregnant, fucking up their education/college, but she wants to keep it and that's her right.

If SHE wants to keep it, that is her right. But, given her mom's conservative politics on the subject, I can't help but wonder if she really wants to keep it or if this is a case of yet another teenager being coerced by her parents into having a baby she doesn't want. That would be really sad.

Calling that out as well. How do you know that for a fact? THIS IS A NON-ISSUE. Quit attacking their kids.

    proof positiveabstonance only is bullshit.

also, doesn't say much for her parenting skills if she can't keep her own daughter from getting knocked up.

I agree that christians and republicans have no claim on family values, and abstonance only education is bullshit.

yes, it would be the same...dragging kids and dragging a problem like that out into the public light for political gain or ratings on a tv show is a DISGRACE. Oh, abstinence works every time...last I checked. Is it realistic? most likely not.

I agree it's a shame that this happens, but she's running for VP of the united states during the information age, everything is on the table...both sides do it, and it says more about our country as a whole, than either party individually.

This I think is the point of it all...it seems she's more interested in her political gain then the public judging/bashing (which I think is wrong) of her daughter. This is not the family values that the republicans speak of.:(
