His latest ad criticizes McCain for not being able to use a computer or answer his own email. Obviously, they are trying to paint him as a doddering old man.

I think this one might backfire, though.

You know why McCain can't use a computer? Because he was beaten mercilessly by the Viet Cong and can't lift his arms.

It mentions it in this 2000 Boston Globe article: http://graphics.boston.com/news/politics/campaign2000/news/McCain_character_loyal_to_a_fault+.shtml

Jesus, you'd think if Obama's people were so computer-savvy, they would learn how to work Google. This is going to make them look pretty bad, I think, basically making fun of a crippled war vet.

Next, Joe Biden will go around telling guys in wheelchairs they need to stand up. Oh wait, that already happened, too ...

Anyway, as I've mentioned elsewhere, this election is still Obama's to lose. He just seems to be going out of his way to lose it.

eh, people aren't going to be aware of mccain's arm difficulties. in this sense, it's as effective as mccain's ads about the lipstick or sex ed. complete disinformation, but nobody in this country cares to find out if the claims are true or not.
    and like that... he's gone.

Come on now, Stephen Hawkings uses a computer, and he can't even speak! I'm just saying that they make computers for people with physical disabilities, and he has obviously chosen not to adapt with technology.

Does this disqualify him from being president? No, not at all. I do think it demonstrates his age quite effectively though. He's definitely part of the pre-computer generation.

    I found this intersting ...

"The McCains were deeply and personally offended by Bush's visit to Bob Jones University, which bans interracial dating, and by rumors about their ''black child.'' On a relief mission to Bangladesh in 1991, Cindy McCain claimed an orphan who was so severely disfigured by a cleft lip and palate that she was unable to eat. She brought 2-month-old Bridget home to Phoenix, where the McCains adopted the baby and nursed her through a dozen operations."

Kind of intersting that the same people that festered that rumor are now running the McCain campaign.

Was the ad silly ... yes ... but you know, it just highlighted this ...

"It's easy for me to go to Washington," said the Senator, "and frankly, be somewhat divorced from the day-to-day challenges people have."

  • McCain is forcing Obama to play this game. His attacks the last few weeks have been baseless and out and out lies.

So I don't blame Obama one bit for fighting back.

He can't institute any change in Washington if he doesn't win the friggin election.

Maybe the ad should say "John McCain has obviously never heard of a laptop!" ;) That's the first thing I thought of.

If the McCain people choose to play this up, I think they could make Obama look pretty foolish.

Of course, you have to pick your spots with playing the victim, and they might have already blown their wad with the "lipstick on a pig thing."

They'd be better off, perhaps, having surrogates beat the drum of "Obama is making fun of McCain's war injuries."

Coupled with the perceived "lipstick" slight, I think it could have a devastating effect on Obama, if played correctly.

    I totally agree..

Even he himself today on the View discussed his lack of computer savvy and did not mention his inablility due to his war injuries. He understands how essential it is.

    The ad is effective.

McCain doesn't corner the market on "out and out lies."

Almost everything the Obama campaign has floated about Sarah Palin has been dishonest.

It's almost like two kids fighting on the playground ... "He started it. No, he started it."

    Politics as usual, I guess.

Until McCain puts out an ad saying, "I don't use a computer because the Viet Cong beat me to within an inch of my life while Obama was hanging out in Kenya or where ever."

Ok why dont you try listing some examples of the lies the Obama campaign is floating around about Sarah Palin...

Why? I do not see how the ability to use a computer makes you a better candidate. Do you think Kerry is computer savvy or Clinton?

I think the Obama camp has to jump on this quote. It would be a mistake for Obama not to bring this one back up.

and again, the Obama campaign ... not some DailyKos like lefty left blog.

That's yet another thing that's been annoying me ... pundits, analysts, bloggers say something and MANY of the right end up saying Obama is saying it.

"They are making fun of Palin's kids" .... NO ... Obama came out and FLAT OUT stated the kids were off limits ...

The pronoun game ... "THEY" ... insinuating Obama ... but, it's NOT Obama.

If you can't use a computer, you are out of touch of today's reality and not fit to lead. The modern world revolves around computers.

If McCain can tie his shoes and sign his name etc. he can use a mouse.
  • Ok why dont you try listing some examples of the lies the Obama campaign is floating around about Sarah Palin...

She pressed to have a state trooper fired just because he was divorcing Palin's sister. (Actually, the trooper had been caught drinking and driving in his squad car on more than one occasion, and once tased a 10-year-old boy).

She banned books from the Wasilla library. (No, she didn't).

She is for abstinence-only sex-ed. (She's for abstinence-BASED sex-ed, and has said she has no problem teaching other forms of contraception in addtion to abstinence.)

She charged the state of Alaska to work from home. (No, she didn't. She charged a per diem that came out to about $7 a head in her household, but did not charge the state a "lodging fee" like so many are indicating. In fact, Palin charged the state 80 percent less in expenses than did her predecessor).

She only wants to teach creationism in public schools (No, she doesn't).

She said the Iraq was was a mission from God (No, she didn't).

    To name a few ...

Look, I don't neccesarily blame Obama for this stuff. It's politics, and unfortunately, you do what you have to do -- even if it means distorting the facts.

Both sides do it. I just think it's disingenuous to suggest it's only coming from one side.

I never said it made him less of a candidate.. sorry, but even my 87 yr old grandfather knows how to use a computer. It shows that McCain is a bit "out of touch" especially with younger voters who get their news exclusively via the internet. How can you think that this technilogy is not something that a man running for president should not have some experience with?

I firmly believe without a doubt Bill Clinton and John Kerry are computer savvy!
