Obama keeps stepping in it

  • His latest ad criticizes McCain for not being able to use a computer or answer his own email. Obviously, they are trying to paint him as a doddering old man.

I think this one might backfire, though.

You know why McCain can't use a computer? Because he was beaten mercilessly by the Viet Cong and can't lift his arms.

It mentions it in this 2000 Boston Globe article: http://graphics.boston.com/news/politics/campaign2000/news/McCain_character_loyal_to_a_fault+.shtml

Jesus, you'd think if Obama's people were so computer-savvy, they would learn how to work Google. This is going to make them look pretty bad, I think, basically making fun of a crippled war vet.

Next, Joe Biden will go around telling guys in wheelchairs they need to stand up. Oh wait, that already happened, too ...

Anyway, as I've mentioned elsewhere, this election is still Obama's to lose. He just seems to be going out of his way to lose it.

    lol, nice try. :)

No longer overwhelmed it seems so simple now.
  • This from an article in Forbes magazine from May of 2000:
In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate's savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.

So, not only can the Obama ad be construed as mean-spirited, it also happens to be an out-and-out lie ...

  • I'll tackle this one:
*Where exactly are you getting this info on her sex ed plan? Sources? From what I understand she is an adamantly abstinence only kind of thinker.

How about a direct fucking quote from the 2006 Alaska gubernatorial debates:

"I'm pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues. So I am not anti-contraception. But, yeah, abstinence is another alternative that should be discussed with kids. I don't have a problem with that," Palin said.

Elsewhere during the same debate, she said teaching high schoolers about condom use was "relatively benign" and she would not oppose it.

And yet ... she's been painted as some "abstinence-only" whack job ... How?
The rest of your facts.. sources would be real great because I think you are just pulling them out of your ass, sorry to say. She is on video saying the Iraq war is god's plan.

I'd like to see this video. The video I saw had her praying that the president was leading our troops into a task that is from God, not saying with 100 percent certainty that the Iraq war was a task that is from God.

There's a huge, huge difference. As one pundit put it, it's not Republican hubris, it's Christian humility. Huge difference.

No different than Barack Obama praying: "Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will."

If you really want to read more about how Palin's words and records have been distorted, here's a commentary piece from CNN.com:

    .

I guess you believe none of these things were done without Obama's tacit approval? You think none of this stuff was churned up by the 30 lawyers, muckrackers and private investigators his team sent to Alaska the day she was nominated?

As we learned from the Swift Boaters in 2004, just because it is not your candidate actually saying these things doesn't mean your candidate doesn't quietly approve.

I believe Obama's folks are feeding a lot of this stuff to the media. You obviously don't. Maybe that makes me cynical. Maybe it makes you naive. I dunno.

What I do know is very little of what has been said about Sarah Palin has been true. And you know, I don't mind if there are political disagreements with her ... if you want to believe she really had nothing to do with stoppign the Bridge to Nowhere, fine. That's a legitimate position to take.

But some of the personal shit they spew about her is really revolting. And, frankly, it isn't helping the Obama campaign.

Dude, nobody has ever claimed his arms must remain stationary at his side at all times. But even Obama knows McCain can't lift his arms past his shoulders.

His condition makes it difficult for him to use a computer keyboard for any extended length of time. That has been documented -- and I've provided the documentation on this thread.

but the point remains mccain has aggressively and personally released and "approved" a number of recklessly false smear ads. obama has not. hell, i've been hoping obama would, because as you pointed out, that swift boat stuff (launched by mccain's campaign manager, coincidence?) works. so obama finally got into the game with this lame computer thing (which i'm not buying as selling what you say it is, but we'll accept it for the sake of argument) and suddenly you're up in arms, after looking the other way for weeks while mccain played the slimiest politics i've ever seen.
    and like that... he's gone.

Are you serious?? I'd rather have someone in charge who spends their time in meetings and actually working, then reading and replying to countless bullshit emails every day. The governor of Pennsylvania (Ed Rendell), as his first duty, had the computer removed from his office and NEVER uses one. He has something called a staff which reads and takes care of computer emails. He gets hard copies of those emails, which he reviews every day and responds either by handwritten fax or a personal phone call. Seems a much more efficient use of time then sitting in front of a computer every day.

are you guys STILL aguring over the e-mail ad ...

hav you even SEEN the ad ... again, the email thing a small part of the ad ...

McCain supporters just want to distract from the fact that the rest of the ad is indeed, SPOT ON.

I am serious. Working nowadays requires computers.

Not to mention ALL BUSINESS, government, home life etc. are highly dependent on computers. This guy may be passing or vetoing technology legislation and he doesn't even know how to use one.

Q: What websites if any do you look at regularly?

Mr. McCain: Brooke and Mark show me Drudge, obviously, everybody watches, for better or for worse, Drudge. Sometimes I look at Politico. Sometimes RealPolitics, sometimes.

(Mrs. McCain and Ms. Buchanan both interject: “Meagan’s blog!”)

Mr. McCain: Excuse me, Meagan’s blog. And we also look at the blogs from Michael and from you that may not be in the newspaper, that are just part of your blog.

Q: But do you go on line for yourself?

Mr. McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need – including going to my daughter’s blog first, before anything else.

Q: Do you use a blackberry or email?

    Mr. McCain: No

Mark Salter: He uses a BlackBerry, just ours.

Mr. McCain: I use the Blackberry, but I don’t e-mail, I’ve never felt the particular need to e-mail. I read e-mails all the time, but the communications that I have with my friends and staff are oral and done with my cell phone. I have the luxury of being in contact with them literally all the time. We now have a phone on the plane that is usable on the plane, so I just never really felt a need to do it. But I do – could I just say, really – I understand the impact of blogs on American politics today and political campaigns. I understand that. And I understand that something appears on one blog, can ricochet all around and get into the evening news, the front page of The New York Times. So, I do pay attention to the blogs. And I am not in any way unappreciative of the impact that they have on entire campaigns and world opinion.

There is absolutely no evidence that Obama's camp is anywhere near that stuff. Nowhere near. See, this is what it's like to be running against John McCain; there's no evidence, and there is even evidence that shows Obama had nothing to do with it; Obama stomped on the Bristol story hours after it broke. You have no evidence, but you keep saying it as if it is fact. And when it's shown to not be fact, you keep saying it anyway, hoping that if it's said enough times, despite all evidence to the contrary, that somebody will think it's true.

I don't mean to say that you've been guilty of all this; I'm just saying that this is how it is to try and run an issues-based campaign against a slime-based campaign.

I agree it's probably not all coming from Obama. I'm willing to grant you that.

But the ad in question in this thread certainly is. And not only is it completely false, it could be construed as mean-spirited ...

ah ok...too many posts to go through...if thats your opinion then I agree with it....and while I don't agree with anything making fun of another persons handicap or shortcoming..or whatever...I don't think that it should have ANYTHING to do with how someone votes.

I wish more Americans would vote on the issues...educate themselves and make an INFORMED decision. Hell I wish more Canadians would do that too lol.

Funny thing is, everytime you see John McCain on TV. He's lifting his arms up, waves, shakes hands, etc.

Last time I checked, all of those things are harder on your arms than resting your hands on a keyboard.

The problems that McCain has with his arms are no excuse to not know how to use a computer... if he writes with a pen on his desk than he sure as hell can type on a keyboard on his desk or on his lap.

That said, I find the ad to be pretty juvenile. Not Obama's best ad at all.
