I kid you not. I asked a 'creationist' about dinosaur fossils and she said, "How do you know they aren't just huge dog bones?". That's when I stopped arguing with her.

Whoa... I think you made a wise decision. I sent an email to the website asking them how man coped to co-exist with the T-rex, and to live in outdoor groups and communities with food markets etc... just like the bible says.

I wonder what they will come back to me with. I will post it here if they do reply. Should be interesting.

Who knows maybe it will start into a back and forth dialog and they will convert me over...lol

You're still drawing from religious traditions in your beliefs. Belief in the type of God you are talking about is still very traditional even if you don't buy all of Christianity.

You owe much to religion if you sincerely believe in God because religion passed that teaching on to you. It's not like you came up with it one day in a moment of illumination. "Oh, huh, you know? I bet you there's this powerful, mystical force that created the universe and it might even have an effect on our daily lives too." Belief in God has been developed over time.

So yes, you do owe something to the religions that passed belief in God along to you, whether you agree with those religions or not. Picking and choosing from the religious buffet is no less religious than buying into just one of them.
    ...
I use the term, "God" for lack of a better term. Basically, a higher source... and definately, NOT the God that is portrayed in the Bible. That god is spiteful, angry, fearful and bent on vengence. 'God' (the higher source) is none of those. Those are all human traits that Man has pinned to God.
And true, i did not invent God... religions did. And to their god, they made Him more like Man. That's how Man can claim God as being on their side, as they slaughter those who are not.
And also true... your god and my God are one in the same. Maybe i just don't lean on Him as much as you do... which is fine. I think the difference is not the way He is.. more like the way WE see Him. You may go to your churches to find Him... I find Him in the natural beauty of this world.
    ...
Look... I don't care what religion you possess as your own. That is your choosing. Why can't you simply allow me the same in return?

Religion has informed your view that there is a God though. Despite the differences, if religion had never existed, chances are you wouldn't believe in any god.

This is like the old slavery question: "if you lived in the south in the early 1800s would you have supported slavery?" Everyone wants to answer no but realistically they know that they would have supported slavery because of that society's acceptance of it.

In the same way, you want to say that you've come to your own conclusions about God but realistically, you know that the society (heavily influenced by Christianity) around you informed you of His existence, not any individual action of your own.

Essentially, whatever you believe is an offshoot religion of itself which attracts followers through your very words. Unwittingly, you attempt to recruit followers by talking about your perceptions of God. All you've really managed to do is take Judeo-Christian faith and make it what you want it to be - make it what fits your perceptions. That is the development of a new religion, not a lack of religion.

See... that's where you are wrong. I'm not 'recruiting' anyone. Religions recruit... I'm explaining what works for me. If Christianity works for you... GREAT!!! I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else that what I believe is right... I have no idea who is right. I just know that I've already tried Christianity a couple of three time and it didn't stick. The reason WHY it didn't stick was because of the people who claimed theirs was the ONLY path to God.
So, you can continue to pound onto me about what i really am or what i really believe all you want. All you are proving to me is that I made the right choice to steer clear of crowds that consist primarily of people like you.

I agree with your post except for this line. You cannot break the fundamental laws of nature with free-will. I can't undo gravitational forces by simply ignoring them. I can, however, ignore God's law.

It is incompatible, if you really understand what free-will is.
I necessarily have the passion for writing this, and you have the passion for condemning me; both of us are equally fools, equally the toys of destiny. Your nature is to do harm, mine is to love truth, and to make it public in spite of you. - Voltaire

there are some in Christianity who dont' believe in free will, a 5 point calvinist does not believe in free will and they do not choose their fate, rather it is chosen for them. And if you're looking for consensus amongst all christians on the topic of free will you will never get it.

I know, but it's a little odd, what with the whole eternal damnation thing.

Yeah clearly I'm pounding onto you.

Hey, if that works for you, fine. It just seems silly to ignore the chicken and say that the egg made itself.

"NO I CAME UP WITH MY OWN THING AND NO ONE ELSE HAS THOUGHT OF IT YET."

You're kind of like an inventor of a new system of thought. God? Woah. Never heard of that concept. Maybe I'll see what that's all about! :D

I never said that. And the more you speak... the more you prove my point about so-called 'Religious' people. You are providing a reason why I choose to steer clear of organized religions... because of people just like you. You keep pounding me about what I'm actually believing in... but, do not see it... yet, YOU do. It's shit... pure and simple religion based shit.
And you DO realize that the God concept predates the Bible, right? That Neolithic Man came up with human like creatures with super powers that helped to explain the Natural world... including life and death. Are your religions based upon these explanations? No.
Your religion invented your god... Your vengeful god... that you fear.
    That is NOT my God.

Sure he does, if he has an appreciation for his own art.

But, mainly, I think, the God you describe sees dollar signs.

free-willy, I've never seen it either, maybe it has philosophical implications to it.

Well, your idea of "fear" in terms of God is incorrect. It translates better as "respect" and awe.

The connection is to your original description and my reply that your god sounds like an investment banker. Even you yourself said you prefer your god to blind to his own human creations. Just like a banker, as long as the money is roilling in, he doesn't care who or what it's coming from.
