That is very true. To a certain extent, it's not about how much you make, it's about what you do with what you earn. If you suck with budgeting and live outside your means then it doesn't matter if you make $12 an hour ir $1200 an hour, chances are you're going to have a hard time finacially if you lose your job. And some people who do lose their job and have a strong skill set still have a hard time finding a job because they're OVER qualified, does that make it their fault that they went to uni, etc etc??1998 Brisbane night 2

You'd be surprised how far $12 an hour can go.. better than the people working 80 hrs a week with two jobs at $5.15 an hour..0

I'm doing just fine at $14.40 an hour. I definitely want to find something that makes more, but I could see continueing to live quite happily at this rate.0 -
It simply means the quality of the employee at CC is not valued anymore, and they'll start becoming horrible and lack knowledge about their products, kind of like 9 out of 10 employees at Best Buy.
It either means the customer is more knowledgeable or some consultant has done a market study. It reflects poorly on them as a company and I believe henceforth I shall spend my dollars elsewhere.
It was a great store when they paid on commission.
I think if I were a manager making 12, I'd go to Tweeter, and put in for a commission job. If you know your shit you can make a lot more money. My Girlfriend said to me..."How many guitars do you need?" and I replied...."How many pairs of shoes do you need?" She got really quiet.0 -

Whoa suferdude. I actually agree with you to the exact letter.
As opposed to the people who pay through the nose for school and then expect to get a good wage when they hit the working force. Get a grip kiddies. You've changed your place in this world!0 -

It's the curse of a consumer driven society. My wife and I make a lot of money together and it still never seems to be enough. You just end up buying more and more shit and nicer and more expensive shit. Then throw in a couple of kids and you have to buy shit for them. Then you go on vacation and buy a bunch of shit. Then tax time rolls around and the government wants a whole big chunk of your shit. It never ends.one foot in the door

I worked at Wal-Mart a couple years ago and made 7.00 bucks an hr, and not only did I get paid shit I got treated like shit also. I would get paid, and still be broke. The only way I can get back at Wal-Mart is by not shopping there, and after hearing about circut city doing this to their employees I will never shop there now. These big company's like this make me sick. There should be a law where if your company makes millions or billions in profit you can't lay people off like this.0

The biggest problem with a capitalist, free-market society is that the wealth is never distributed the way that it is "assumed" it should be by economists and politicians. If we could solve this problem I am all for a capitalist, free market.
Last night I helped to ameliorate this problem. I tipped $100 to a waittress at our dinner (on the company tab)... like a 40% tip. I work for a huge corporation so I don't see any problem with this, and it makes the day of some young lady trying to survive in a huge city on minimum wage and measly tips.Everything not forbidden is compulsory and eveything not compulsory is forbidden. You are free... free to do what the government says you can do.0 -
tooferz wrote:$12.00 an hour is better than nothing, definitely higher pay and easier work than say restaurant work. people live within their means and make do.
definitely easier, but I make $35/hour waiting tables. That is my career.I really screwed that up. I really Schruted it.0 -
i meant more along the lines of fast food at taco bell but even at nicer restaurants it depends on your job. my brother makes 6 figures as gm of a sports restaurant...the waiters and bar people make good money with tips but my nephew works in the kitchen n makes 9.00 an hour._Crazy_Mary_ wrote:definitely easier, but I make $35/hour waiting tables. And for your sake I hope you are prepared for all possible eventualities in your life. Don't ever get really sick.
Considering that I am not yet 30 and I have already gone through open heart surgery (cost me about 6 months), and a life-threatening infection relating to a broken femur (cost me a year) and I still somehow managed to get my life back together each time and put myself in a position where if something else shitty happens I can afford it, I think that others just might be able to do it as well. Surely I'm not the only person who has ever overcome difficulties in life. Granted, I didn't get through all that shit by myself, but people get sick and move on all the time. Being prepared for things in life like illnesses and layoffs really doesn't take that much work.1/12/1879, 4/8/1156, 2/6/1977, who gives a shit, ...0 -

Well I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm glad you were able to rise above it. Perhaps walking in someone elses shoes might help you understand that chronic illness can have long term effects on people and make it extremely difficult for them to work regularly and save. The statistics bear this out.
But I'm really glad that you have conquered your world. Well done.
NOPE!!!
